Mr Postperson called today with a couple of small packages..

    The first one contained these:

The second contained a nice Circle T 4mm ortho volcano top, which I plan to compare with my Parks Gold 3.8mm.

I owned a full set of BGOs a few years ago and confess I have missed them for certain applications such as lunar, planets and double stars.

I often wished they had offered the BGO lens set in a Circle T volcano top body..but I can use these with winged eyeguards, which I do find helpful in keeping my eyelash off the lens with the short eye relief..

    I do like orthos..

I wonder if you regret letting me have the Antares 7 and 9mm ortho`s, sorry but not letting you have them back

I think a simple prism might be the answer to the focus problem. As for the green trimmings - I just assume it was designed to go well with Tele Vue accessories

Derek, if you wish to try a prism, i can loan you a circle T 1.25 prism, i would require it back at some stage

  3. couple of days ago postie brought me a 5-6 volt Ubec, this takes a voltage from a lipo battery and reduces it to 5 or 6 volt dc, i have set it to 6v, soldered some connection plugs, taken the power lead from my skywatcher dual drive battery pack, and now have a light weight power supply for my eq5 motors, using an 1800mah 2s lipo, this will power the mount for a good few sessions with plenty of power, then just 40 mins on the charger and good to go again

Hi Jules, just saw the other post, Bresser f8, sounds nice.
I was tempted myself on the sale website.

Yes, it worked out at £161 plus a few shillings posted, seemed rude not to give it a try, Alicant has one and heaped praise on it plus it seems it can bring a DSLR to focus with no mods, nice hexa focus, if the optics are good it should be a real nice scope, time will tell

This is an interesting thread. When the AZ5 came out used prices seems to fall off on the AZ4 yet it would appear the AZ4 remains the heftier mount of the two. I've certainly never had any problems using my ST120 on my AZ4 at higher mags and I even used a 150P for some time with no issues. Granted it doesn't have slow motion controls but when it's well balanced I've never felt the need for them anyway. I guess it is always assumed a later version number means they are a better mount. I have no doubt it brings a far better capability to the table over the AZ3 which would in all fairness be it's direct competition regards the use of slow motion controls and lightweight portability. As for a comparison to the AZ4 it's probably not in the same bracket. An AZ4 would probably be better compared to a Giro II, mini or similar I guess??

Did you not have an AZ4 @nightfisher

No.......I have had 2 AZ4, and yes they are a good mount, sometimes they need a little fettle to get the best from them, but i think for me the AZ5 would be nice with slo mo controls, but not in the market for astro gear at present
