Many years ago i did this with a plossl, then did not know what way round they go, so had to strip another plossl (carefully) to get the correct order

Good luck with it, i found this page that might help put it back together https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Televue+panoptic+diagram&espv=210&es_sm=93&tbm=isch&source=iu&imgil=n74GRxJ_-v9weM%253A%253Bhttps%253A%252F%252Fencrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com%252Fimages%253Fq%253Dtbn%253AANd9GcS83z2DVWThzYQJfsrFxXkid2TI4TmB-FCn2gTgAqv0o8w3FKJc%253B250%253B200%253B4SDvIJYLEuSL7M%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.handprint.com%25252FASTRO%25252Fae5.html&sa=X&ei=tWLBUsyfLc2u7AaVqYHwCg&ved=0CEYQ9QEwBg&biw=1366&bih=666#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=n74GRxJ_-v9weM%3A%3B4SDvIJYLEuSL7M%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.handprint.com%252FASTRO%252FIMG%252Fpanoptic.gif%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.handprint.com%252FASTRO%252Fae5.html%3B250%3B200

It may take more than just a few turns to reach focus. Maks have a wide focus range so you may need to turn the focuser farther than you think.
That is a good point, may take many turns
-
How old is this 140? on the older models you had to remove the finder shoe then 3x little screws around the outer edge of back plate, but NOT the 3x hex bolts in the end of back plate, have a look at the focuser and see if there is a tiny screw to lock it to focus spindle, this might just need tightening up a touch, can you post a pic of the back end of the scope

Yes I can see my eye too. I just don't know why I just can't get a sharp image?
How do I line up my finder scope with the telescope? Are there step by step instructions?
Thanks again!!! At least we're going somewhere with some improvement!
Can you post a picture showing the focuser with eyepiece in it as you would use it

this will sound silly but i take it you have focused the eyepiece, i ask because this has come up before, im guessing you have the 10mm and 25mm eyepiece, try inserting the 25mm and getting that to focus first

Excellent again my friend, and thanks for taking the time to compile this

No longer a set of TV Nags but I don't feel quite so bad having them sat gathering dust during all the cloudy nights we seem to have in the UK.
3-6 Nagler Zoom
5mm BGO
6mm BCO
6.7mm ES 82°
11mm ES 82°
14mm ES 82°
18mm ES 82°
20mm ES 100°
x2 TV Barlow
x3 Antares Japan Barlow
Castell UHC 2"
Castell OIII 2"
SW LPR 2"
Baader Neodymium Filter 1.25"
ND25 Moon filter 1.25"
Nick, thats a very nice set of glass, will serve you well, look forward to catching up at PSP

This has to be the final incarnation for my EP case, i have added a 4mm and a 6mm circle T ortho, note the 4mm came without dust caps so i have put a little poly bag around it for now, i dont see me changing any thing in the case now (famous last words) but very happy with what i have, the 4 and 6mm were not necessary but nice to have the full set of orthoscopics.
Note the 18mm is a BGO, this gets used for A-focal lunar imaging due to the barrel shape

i also found the standard rear back to be poor, but i have added crayford focuser so this problem has gone away
-
I have the 180 pro, but these days i seem to have fallen out with it to a small extent, not saying its a bad scope, far from it, but it needs a heavy EQ mount and i much prefer the AZ4 mount these days, so the mak sits in its box waiting to come out, and only gets used a few times a year now

i went a few months back, realy enjoyed my evening, looking forward to going again in the autumn

I think my EP case really is complete now, from top left ES maxvision 16mm....BST 18mm BST 25mm....Baader turret x2.25 barlow
next row down is 5mm 7mm 9mm 12.5mm circle T ortho`s, with a space reserved for the 4mm if i ever get a set of dust caps
last row is 18mm BGO....25mm circle T ortho and 32mm Revelation photo/visual plossl, and a little white case with some filters.
Only thing i may change is the barlow, still not 100% sure its the right one for me
-
Must have missed this, great informative post, thanks james
-
looks like a prinz astral 400, not bad and if you adapt it to take 1.25 ep`s it should give "better than you expect" lunar views, i had one and it was rather good on lunar
-
I have finally re done my eyepiece case,
from the top- BST starguiders 15mm 18mm and 25mm, plus the Baader turret x2.25 barlow
next row- Circle T orthoscopics 5mm 7mm 9mm 12.5mm and room for my 4mm when i get some end caps
bottom row- BGO 18mm, and Circle T 25mm, then Revelation 32mm photo/visual plossl and filter box.
once the 4mm Circle T goes in, its complete

This is one of my currant scopes, its badged as a TS astronomical and is 76mm f1250 (f16.5), its a pretty good scope and in its day very sought after, this same scope was available as a Tasco 10TE
-
I have to get some more foam and redo my case, i have sold some ep`s and bought a lovely new circle T 5mm orthoscopic, ortho`s are now my most used ep`s
-
I ordered a set of 76mm orion tube rings to fit my 3" f16.5 classic refractor on monday, having never dealt with this company before, they were delivered today (Wed) very well packaged and are a perfect fit
very smooth transaction
-
A very good appraisal, i had considered this scope, but im planetary so ruled it out

What will you be replacing the BSTs with? Something Black and Green?
Here is the problem, i dont use the BST`s a huge amount, and i cant fit all six of them in the case, so moving them on and getting three better ep`s in the most suitable focal length makes sense, but im not into televue`s so i cant think of a brand of ep that i would prefer. A while back i got a celestron x-cel lx 7mm, and it looked like i might have gone with them, but my 7mm had issue`s and put me of the brand
-
Okay, feel that my eyepiece case is complete, i now have a full set of BST`s, though the 25mm is on loan, below the bst`s is a gso 20mm then 18mm BGO a lovely 25mm kellner from kokusai (vintage) 12.5 and 7mm circle T ortho`s, Tal barlow and 32mm gso photo visual plossl, small white plastic case has four visual filters. But i have asked father in law if he would like to make me a small wooden box to house my tal plossl`s and other odds an sods
I have made some changes, the 25mm kellner has been changed for a 25mm KK circle T and the 20mm GSO plossl is looking for a new owner as a 9mm KK circleT has pushed it out, i feel this box is a little crowded, and i think in time i might move the BST`s on and replace with some thing different, but dont know what, the most used ep`s are the KK circle t`s

Dear all
I wanted to drop in and say thank you on behalf of the Sky at Night team for all these tributes to our friend Patrick. I know he would have enjoyed reading them himself (while denying, of course, that he was anything special). I'm another who owes a love of astronomy to listening to him speak, and many of the memories here could be mine too.
Do go out and work on the Moore marathon if you can.
Chris Lintott
PS Please don't ask about the future - there'll be time to think about that later. There's still one more program in the can with Patrick which will be shown in January.
I can say all members of this forum have posted from the heart. many thanks for taking time to post chris
