Revelation 80ED f6.8 for grab’n’go duties. In decent condition. Typical ED frac with FPL51 glass and good enough for what I want it for. Had one years ago and found it gave very nice views so when I came across another one at a good price bought it.  ?

Was that the one on ABS John? I was very tempted myself, but couldn't find enough info about them! Looks lovely.

I had begun to get a feeling whilst using my solar scope that it was getting more and more difficult to (1) get an initial view that I was happy with (2) almost impossible to increase magnification and get a sharp image (3) the sweet spot was shrinking :(

So is this a degenerative issue then Alan? Is it going to happen again in the future I wonder, or if it was a batch issue, for example?

Nice. It would be good to hear what you make of the 62° line once you've had a chance to test them. I don't think we've had many (any?) reports so far.

I will report on the 62°. Searched high and low for reviews but like you say, none around.

Ooh - not sure I’ve added my two pence on here yet. Here’s my Opticstar ar90s gold. 90mm achromat, 800mm f8.8 all metal, 1:10 focuser. No longer on the AZGTI though, need to pick up an EQ2 orAZ5 head from somewhere! Cracking scope!

Very nice, I've been tempted by an opticastar scope for ages, but can't really justify one alongside my current frac! Though I do dancy a long white tube frac for solar.......

  7. Nearly completed my equipment draw down to one all-purpose scope now. Here it is in a bit of a hybrid visual/imaging setup trying out my new ADM guidescope clamps. The clamps make removing the guidescope complete with guider quick and easy and I've made up two wiring looms, one for visual and the other for imaging. I hope to continue DSO imaging and have a crack at some planetary too.

Received a Sky-Watcher reducer/flattener yesterday only to find it needs an M48 adapter not T2, which I already have - another purchase required! Boy have I spent enough on Astro this last 6 months! Still, sold a few bits on too, so recuperating some cost.

Now I just need the baby to sleep through the night and the scope might actually get some use!

  8. I'm pretty sure the answer to that will be a resounding yes Steve. I'm considering the AZ5 or AZ GTi for grab & go but would have to adapt either to fit my CG5 tripod which is overkill, requires the Berlebach adapter and requires chopping and changing scopes/mounts about.

I'd be well up for an AZ GTi on the tripod you speak of as a package deal.

Thanks, a friend just sent me a photo of the AZ5 that arrived with him yesterday.  He has an ED120 mounted on it comfortably.  I think I've made my mind up.

The exact setup I had in mind, was worried the ED120 may be a bit too long for the AZ5 so will be interested to hear any feedback.

I wonder how difficult it would be fashion a little converter plate so that the AZ5 head can be attached to the AZ4 tripod.....and if there will be enough demand that someone might start producing these.

Already thought about talking to my local machinist about this, but....

Indeed, the tripod IS the limit. On the Skywatcher Italian website, listed as coming soon, there is the AZ5 with the same tripod as the AZ/EQ-5: payload is 9kg.

    http://www.skywatcher.it/prodotto/montatura-altazimutale-az5/

The webpage say also "fluid movements with friction block".

This is a game changer, got me thinking about the mount again, fitte dto the CG5 tripod and...

I didn't know they did one, what a good idea

    We'll order some for stock.

Steve, I think you'd be on to a winner there.

One final thing I'd like to see is an ADM saddle to fit, stop all that dovetail munching that the locking screws cause.

  11. Yes I just noted the same. I'm also a little dissapointed at the rated ota capacity - up to 5kg? I'd like to have seen it capable of more than the AZ4.

In the end I went for the SW as it's qualities are well documented. The only stuff I could find on the bresser was a review on here by Parallaxer (I think), he ended up sending it back as he was disappointed with it optically.

Correct. I was not impressed with the optics and found my ED80 was giving stronger views of the planets, although, admittedly, perhaps I didn't give it enough of a chance.

I also questioned the build quality with some dodgy looking rubber seal around the objective & poor English text on the objective ring. Also, I found the Hex focus very stiff. Nothing majorly wrong in the grand scheme of things but I didn't feel the product was worth what I paid for it (and I got it cheaper than it retails now).
