  1. I was looking at these scopes myself TBH as an upgrade in the not too distant future , but in the 12/14 range .. so I suppose any comments would be applicable.

I have read some interesting comments on Cloudy Nights .. regarding similar  scopes .. https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/595503-gso-vs-tso-for-ritchey-chretien-telescopes/

one thing that I have had experience with is a CT8 Newtonian.( open mirror ) .  I noticed the primary mirror became dirty quite quickly and from what I have read it doesn’t make that much difference, but as an imager I want the best possible image being projected from that mirror , so I ended up removing and cleaning the mirror a couple of times , which then meant collimating the scope , which isn’t a bad thing I suppose , but a bit more difficult on a Ritchey Chretien . So I have read ! . and much easier to clean the front glass on a Smit .

will be interesting to read what others think ..  🤔

  2. Hi , sorry if this is a stupid question ☺️, But  back I need August you posted the video of you moving the balanced scope around , but with the sound up you can here what appears to be gears slipping , though from what I've read the mount is a friction drive , so can you tell me what that noise is please ? , sounds like my CEM60 if I don't wind off the clutches properly when balancing ..

    That is very, very nice.

I like 'dark-space' and a smattering of colourful stars in an astro-shot.

Oh, how have  I tried to get the red tendrils on M82.......   is this mono or OSC   ??     Edge or  130 edt   ??

    Whichever, it is poster quality.

    Sean.

Hi Sean , this was taken with the 130 with   QSI583.. , and I'm glad you like it  😊, my first post about a week ago of this image was lacking , so I played with the data somemore and dragged out more detail .. ..

you could spend hours and days doing it as I'm sure your well aware , and  do ....

  4. I shot this last week and posted the first version , but wasn't totally happy , so i`ve  been playing with the data again , as you do when its cloudy and miserable ...  and I think its improved .. If the weather ever improves enough I think I will soot some more subs to add .. cropped a bit tighter and rotated as well

  5. I've been wanting to shoot this for ages , and finally managed some imaging time over the past few nights .. Friday was good here and last night was supposed to be good from about 11 .. in fact it was good from about 7  but unexpectedly the clouds rolled in later ..

I haven't done much  LRGB I seem to stick with Narrowband due to the moon light always being an issue .. so not had much practice with processing the subs which looked poor .. anyways

    66 x 300 sec LRGB  subs

    26 x 600 sec Lum and Ha

92 subs total integration time of 9.8 hours ..   for what it was worth the Ha didn't bring much to the table and was a waste of time ..  but you live and learn ..

processed in APP , PS & LR

  6. shot this on 28-29th November and again on the 1-2 December .

only 2.3 hours of 300 sec subs LRB synG  .. I was hoping to add another 4 hours last night but the clouds that were not predicted rolled in about 2.30 this morning , and after stopping and starting a couple of times I gave up . but processed the little data I had  today with this result ..

shot on my 130 EDT with QSI583

  7. Hi Dave , thanks for the reply ..  I processed the data from Friday , not too much to be honest as I loose the target behind the house , I think I managed 4 hours ...  so I'm on it again now .. the image from fridays data is ok but not the detail I tend to get with narrowband ..

  8. I haven't done much LRGB imaging as I have mostly been using Narrowband ..

anyways , started on Friday night with NGC1333 , and the subs look poor , I'm wondering if it's light pollution, especially as we're starting earlier now ..

    any thoughts ..

heres a sub , don't worry about the square pattern that's just the iPad taking a pic of the laptop .

In my opinion pc's like those are total crap, Celestron just means stay away!
For a good quality small pc that doesn't cost much look for Lenovo Thinkcentre M93p Tiny. Here in Norway i've seen them for everthing from £90 to £250.

Usually they have Intel i5 CPU (and most often 4590T)
Some have Wifi, if not it's not much for a Wifi dongle.

Older models can have mechanic HDD's, switching to a SSD is super easy to do yourself and won't cost much. Windows will reactive without problem after upgrade.

There's also other choice for these pc's and they are all meant for professional use so they are very good quality and there's good support for drivers and new bioses.

Hi Ole , I. Have just brought one of these myself , not received it yet .. but I have a question .. silly as it may be .

This will be mounted on my pier ..  so when I fire it up how will it connect to my laptop to operate it ..  normally when I connect my laptops , one outside , one inside in the warm with me .. I bring up team viewer on the outside laptop get the password then connect inside .. but when I turn the new mini on outside there will not be any screen ..  I don't know if I have explained it too well ..

Very nice image. I got zooming in on it and I'm trying to convince myself that you've got a pixel's worth of the Crab Pulsar just along side it's companion field star :)
