  1. I've posted this before but messed with it some more. This is through the nikon kit lense @200mm piggybacked on my evolution. Around thirty 25 sec exposures or so. A rare opportunity to drive somewhere dark.
  2. Badly processed but 1 exposure at 25 secs I think. Through a 102mm lunt ed. Again a heavily light polluted backyard.
  3. Just one with the nikon kit lense Of orion @ 200mm. Cant remember the rest oof the settings. Tripod only.
  4. I've been dying to see this. I live in a heavily light polluted area so I'm surprised I got to see it from my backyard. So it was from my 9.25 sct@ f/10. Nikon d5300 at iso 1000 I believe. Only one 30 second exposure. I just wanted to see what it was actually like taking a pic through this scope. One pic is raw he other i just auto enhanced on the photoshop phone app.
  5. Damn good point about going against what the experts say ian. If I'd have listened to all those in the beginning I would have not even been discussing this.?
  6. No just kidding. I've taken enough bits from it to decide to try one anyway. What's the worst that can happen.
  7. It does yes. I did actually mean get more out of current exposure lengths but you explained it better.
  8. Ian. Sorry if this is an impossible question but in your opinion how much of a reduction would you say you would get. You have a 102mm f/7 right?
  9. Also I have a 9.25 sct. I've considered buying the fr for that. Would that make for a better imaging scope with the 6.3 reducer than my f/7 refractor?
  10. But just to see if I'm understanding this correctly. A fr would initially make an f/7 a lower f number however the reduced light would be dimmer which would counteract the initial speed boost ?
  11. I only wanted one to decrease exposure times so if that's the case I wont bother however I should have known there are no concrete answers Haha well for now I'll hold off until I k ow at least something about these things. Right now I know nothing. Thanks for all the info everyone
  12. Yeah I'm in Canada. I've not found anything by lunt online. That's one of the reasons I asked actually. I've not found that many online. I'll take my time on this one I think. Just until I'm sure which set up will work. Thx.
  13. Thanks ian. Any recommendations for one and adaptors?
  14. Can I get any thoughts on using a focal reducer for a f7 102 refractor pls. Is it as straight forward as it's going to make things a little faster and easier or is there anything it's going to make harder at the same time? The scope is a 102mm lumt engineering ed doublet of that's relevant. Will also be using a nexstar evolution mount. Thx.
  15. Hello smisey. What kind of adaptor are you using for your phone? I tried and failed miserably with my phone. Well I had one lucky night.
  16. Is that really one exposure with eyepiece projection?...... I'll tell you what? Hello Ken. Is this pic taken with a focal reducer on the 9.25 or as is? Also what kind of adaptor would I need to attach a camera to the visual back without a reducer? I can't seem to find anything that looks right. Thx.
  17. Thanks Ken. I have an adapter which slots into the 2 inch opening on my refractor. I haven't tried it on the sct, I just assumed it was a different piece but it looks like the pic on the link. I still be using the refractor for most of my imaging I was just surprised to see the quality of that pic of yours with the sct. It's really good and I'm going to try it anyway just to see the difference. Hello Ken. Is this pic taken with a focal reducer on the 9.25 or as is? Also what kind of adaptor would I need to attach a camera to the visual back without a reducer? I can't seem to find anything that looks right. Thx.
  18. Hello Ken. Is this pic taken with a focal reducer on the 9.25 or as is? Also what kind of adaptor would I need to attach a camera to the visual back without a reducer? I can't seem to find anything that looks right. Thx.
  19. Thanks. I've just had a look at the admirals pictures... brilliant. My goal is to get a few images good enough to print and stick on one of my walls. This thread makes me think it's achievable.. it took me a long time to stumble on to this.
  20. Although over processed it's the only one I could manage to upload?? I much prefer the unmessed with raw file. But this is 1 20 or 15 second exposure on my evo mount and 102mm lunt ed. Again just practising setting up and getting used to the camera. I'm pretty pleased with what was captured with one exposure though.
  21. Hello all. I love this thread. Gives me hope after being told of all the other avenues I've asked questions on to not bother trying if I don't have eq equip. So this is my first multiple image attempt. I piggy backed my Nikon d5300 with the kit 55mm to 200mm lense @200 on my 9.25 sct on the evo mount. I had about 20 minutes to get anything due to weather. This is about 29 20 second exposures at 1600 iso. I managed a few bias. No flats or darks. Messed about on the trial pixinsight and stacked on dss. Pixinsight even though expensive when I buy is the only one I could get my head around. I tried star tools but my pc isn't up to scratch and a few others that I had no joy with. Looking forward to trying properly when the weather permits with my 102mm refractor on the same mount.
