  1. Hi I am looking for a new scope as i am looking to upgrade my 8 inch dob as its just too awkard for me to set up and store. I was wondering what would be a good upgrade? I enjoy looking at most things but mainly galaxies and planets ( alao the moon). I think i would be comfortable at around £700. I am looking for something that has a quick set up time which also is easier to store. And has some sort of goto function but not that important if it doesnt have it. I was thinking of a refractor this time or even maybe a maksutov. Any advice is much appreciated
  2. Hi Ive been starting to listen to podcasts at work and i was wondering if there are any good astronomy ones on either youtube or spotify. At the moment i'm not listening to any apart from joe Rogan interviews with brian cox ect i wqs just wondering of there is anything similar or something that goes deeper.
  3. Hi yes it does but was just wonderong if needed something sturdier and also wasnt sure on how high the eyepiece would be
  4. Hi I am thinking about putting my dob on a heq5 pro for visual as I would like the ease of go to and I was just wondering what would be the best tripod to use ? Or should I use a pillar of some sort. I had seen an older thread somewhere where I think he had it or a pillar type thing but not sure what it was. Any my suggestions would be appreciated thanks
  5. Hi thanks for the reply on the specifications it says the max weight is 12kg not sure how much the 200p weighs and the website I linked also says 8 inch max
  6. Thanks all for the advice, i have just come across this https://www.astroshop.eu/alt-azimuth-without-goto/omegon-mount-push-/p,48277?utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=48277&utm_campaign=1907&utm_source=froogle&gclid=CjwKCAjwg-DpBRBbEiwAEV1_-L0TKvSHrSeULFT5mPDuFJ9oibU9pk8gxslAgySvZOAyK_0u1qbChhoCvdIQAvD_BwE&utm_content= would this be any good? Costly though.
  7. Hi I was just wondering is there a way to buy a dob base separately that has go to? As i would like to buy one for my 200p is there anywhere that i could find one or is it not possible Thanks
  8. Hi i recently asked about which places to go to for astronomy and I’m very tempted by the idea of going to la palma by myself. However I’m just wondering if anyone has been and could give me some advice on where to stay and what’s the best time of year? Is it better to stay at a holiday home than a hotel? I would like it to be close to the airport and shops if I were to do self catering. I would be looking for going to go for two weeks. I’ve seen some villas have telescopes which would be very useful as I would be just taking a star adventurer and a dslr. Any my advice would be much appreciated as I’m a bit lost.
  9. Thanks for the help sounds like Tenerife would be a good place to go to.
  10. Thanks for the advice. That’s the only problem is the weather, I’m trying to find somewhere that’s got other things to do as well I was thinking Hawaii but maybe that’s abit extreme, Tenerife seems to be a popular place.
  11. Hi I am thinking of travelling abroad and I’m thinking of just taking a SA and maybe a small telescope to put on it nothing to big. Haven’t thought much about it but I’d probably travel by plane and hopefully stay somewhere that is close to a dark site that I could hopefully walk to.
  12. Hi I’m thinking about doing a solo trip next year and would like to do some Astro photography while I’m on holiday I was just wondering where are the best places to go which have really dark skies?
  13. Hi i may be going to the Kennedy space centre next year and I remembered that there was a launch for the new mars rover I was just wondering does anyone know what the date is of it as I keep seeing different times or has it not been set yet? Or if there will be any other good ones to see ? i was also wondering if anyone could share there experiences of Kennedy space centre and if you ever saw a launch, we will be hopefully going to Disney as well. thanks for the help
  14. Hi i have just bought a 70d and I was just wondering which lenses I should use? I will be buying a telescope later down the line and the star adventurer but for now I just would like to get to know the camera and use it on a normal tripod as I have never used a dslr. My budget would be around £200 do you think I should get 2 lenses or buy one decent one? And what would I be able to photograph while I practice without any tracking? thanks for the help
  15. Thanks for the image looks like a nice set up, do you guide with it? I’ll probab get the scope down the line after I get used with the camera and mount first
  16. My mistake it was a 72ed it’s the skywatcher one thought it was a 70. So I won’t have any trouble then? And is guiding necessary? would this tripod be ok? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Manfrotto-Element-Traveller-Tripod-Ball/dp/B075D6SKT7/ref=asc_df_B075D6SKT7/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310171959482&hvpos=1o2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16471433534155622793&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=t&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006520&hvtargid=pla-404195422698&psc=1&th=1&psc=1
  17. Hi im looking to buy a 700d to us on a star adventurer and I was wondering has anyone used the 70ed and if so what are the results like and what would be the limits of the scope? thanks
  18. Managed to find a old storage box we had which is waterproof so have stored the base inside with my eyepieces ect and also now have a trolley for the scope which makes everything so much easier and also shortens the set up time.
  19. I’m ok carrying as I have a bag for the ota the main problem I have is the base as I just find it heavy and awkward plus I have to struggle getting it through a small door then a step which doesn’t help so if I can find a way to maybe just store the base outside. I didn’t really think this through when I got the scope. Maybe I’m just a weakling 😁
  20. I have a carry bag for the Ota so I think if I knew the weather was going to be really bad I would keep it in that and put it back in the garage
  21. Sorry is a 8” dob and yes has a chipboard base I was going to put something underneath it or at least put it on our patio.
  22. Hi thanks will have to look at measurements but looks good I have seen these covers I was wondering if I would be safe using these https://www.firstlightoptics.com/telegizmos-telescope-covers/telegizmos-365-scope-cover-for-6-8-f5-dobsonians.html
  23. Hi i was wondering do people leave their dob outside all year round? I struggle moving it from the garage because of the weight and also steps plus a small door I have to try and get past. I was just wondering is there a solution where I can have it permanently set up or at least stored outside instead? I was hoping to not buy a shed or anything like that but maybe like a storage box of some sort? I saw there was a 24/7 cover would they work yearly? I would really like to find a solution because it’s stopping me from using the scope thanks
