Err, I hate to point this out, but did you check the date on the original post? The OP hasn't even been seen on here since 2014!
David
Victim of a Necro post LOL
I type on a phone, so I missed it.
Just assumed it was recent.
Oh well, 😂

Wait!
Not sure if this has been mentioned yet;
There is a tiny Allen set screw on the knob, maybe 2, loosen, and pull the knob back about 1mm.
It is probably rubbing against the rear of the scope.
This is VERY common, they push it on way too hard at the factory.
My 127, and my C6 had this issue.

Welcome Dave, thanks for joining SGL
This is a good site and I highly recommend the book

Wow, the C5 is being discontinued
I bet they will keep it around in packages like the SE and Astro Fi
As an OTA, it was over priced and rather large as a spotter IMHO

WOW!
Stunning to say the least, Eris
Thanks for sharing 🙂

Sadly the seeing has not be well around here
I have been getting rather blurry views.
However I have been enjoying everyone's images 🙂

If I remember correctly, (without googling to be sure), we had at least 1 more moon shot already built, but scrapped it.
We have a history of wasting billions of dollars on projects we start, then decide we dont need.
If I could just get a job overseeing these things, think of the kit I could have if I just siphoned off .001% of a billion dollars into my offshore account!😎
You are correct.
Apollo 18 was ready to go.
Then it was literally gutted and the Saturn V was made into Skylab.

I think its too early to tell. I think the shape of the economic recovery rather than the name of the president will probably determine the direction of NASA.
And if not NASA perhaps the current crop of billionaires and space tourists may continue the human presence in Earth orbit and the Moon.
Beyond the Earth/Moon region I expect the space probes will rule for quite some time - I just don't see human flight to another planet in my lifetime happening, there are too many difficulties to overcome even if the money is found.
Sadly, I couldn't agree more
I remember the Moon landings as a child, they said we would have humans on Mars by 2000 or before.
Musk is probably our only hope.

I personally do not believe we were going to send humans to the Moon in 3.5 years.
The can keeps getting kicked...

You received some real good advice here.
An 8" Dob is a great scope.
What makes it great besides it's light gathering ability is the solid base.
No flimsy tripod/mount to deal with

For me, I really enjoyed the Transit of Venus in 2012
lots of clouds, but I got some good views anyway
The solar eclipse of 99 was pretty awesome 😎 had to drive an hour south for Totality, found a little park with a fair amount of friendly folks 🙂
