What causes the "wobble"? Vibrations through the ground, wind, touching the scope? If you eliminate all these, could there be other sources of wobble?

The 8SE is at the weight limit of the mount.

So at high magnification there will be some wobble after focusing for a couple of seconds.

I wouldn't let that turn you off to an otherwise great scope.

The finder scope, and mounting system, included with the C-90 Mak is a sad little joke. I’m in the market for a good reliable replacement at this moment. Doing the stellar alignment for my goto with what was sent in the package is a study in frustration. I just packed up for the night because even after modifying the finder system it’s still a mile off, and makes that 2-3 star alignment a royal pain. The C-90’s narrow FOV doesn’t help here. I need a wide angle low mag crosshair eyepiece instead of the 12 mm version I have. Oh well, back to the drawing board and daylight fixes for night time problems.

I put a Rigel Quick Finder on mine :)

It does have a narrow field, however with a $15 adapter, you can add a focal reducer and get about 2°, still narrow but better.

Of course, nothing beats a ST-80 in that price range for a wide field of view ;)

  3. My wife and I took a trip by rail out to Glacier Park in Montana, USA back in 2008.

It was the darkest place I have ever been :)

However, it ruined astronomy for me for several years. All I did when I got back was planetary :(

But one evening there wasn't any planets to view, and the DSO bug bit again :)

I note that an observing chair has already been mentioned three times and I have to agree it makes a world of difference. I use a typist chair as it is fully adjustable. Good old Amazon!
Sketch pads! Who would have thought? But I do understand why. Dew Heater bands for SCTs, yes they are essential, for me it was a toss up between including that or the Bhatinov.

A typist chair does make a decent observing chair.

Not only are they adjustable, but the wheels allow you to wheel about.

I observe in perpetual mud here, so it won't work for me.

However, mud can be a good accessory :)

it acts a a vibration damper, just plop your mount down in it 😂
