It turns out that even in such vertical lighting, with practically no visible chiaroscuro, you can also get an interesting image of the lunar surface:

OOH! wonderful! I'm loving the colours on display here, it gives the moon an organic feel.

  2. WOW! these are simply amazing, I wish i could contribute an imaging opinion but to me, everything technical about these may as well be in a foreign language. What I do see which jumps out at me is the

increased sharpness and detail present in the TOA image,  but it also has more purple stuff in there (not sure if purple is good or not). Amazing work in any case, it is inspiring!.

Well spotted!! Actually it was balanced in use..let me explain.

In the photo there was no (2")  diagonal or eyepiece, but the dewshield shown was solid, thick aluminium, about 15" long! It suppressed stray light brilliantly, being flocked with proper Matt black flocking, but it did mean the balance point of the whole scope was significantly shifted..

..so I usually used the scope without the dewshield, which allowed the position on the mount shown to be correctly balanced with diagonal and ep in place👍😊.

Forgot to mention the perfectly manicured space you have there!

    Beautiful.

That should feature in this thread..

Was this scope one of Richard Days' (Skylight) or Mark Turners' (Moonraker) creations?

It reminds me very much of the 80mm F15 Meade 339 I had which Mark Turner built..

Wow what a beauty! also, there’s no way this telescope is balanced, no way.

For some clear skies and for someone to not be too tired to put them out! 🤪

Sounds just like a 4” refractor, I would know.

A warm welcome @Moonlit Knight. I’m sure you will find lots of good information and many friendly members here. There are also, as you see, many fellow worshippers of 4” refractors including myself. Last count was three of the little beggars 🤣

And what exactly do they beg you for? 😂
