Got my 10x50's today and i am really impressed with them so far
just been using them through living room window as its snowing here lol but views are nice ,clear and crisp with no chromatic aberation noticed guess proof will be whe i observe with them but very happy with them at moment

lot of folks on here use 8x40 bins so i dont see why your friend wouldnt see most of the objects if not all of the objects you can see with 10x50 maybe not quite as big picture as the 10x50
a lot depends on the quality of the glass and the coatings used in the bins . mind you even 8x40 bins will be better using a mono or tripod really steadies the view
have a read at Steve Tonkins Binocular Sky site reall good reading and reviews on bins

think you will be lot better of with the Orions mate
zoom bins have narrow field of view , well my celestron 10-30x50 bins the fov is about 50% of 10x50 bins
OMG did i just admit to owning zoom bins , must be early onset old timers disease
