  1. Great! thank you very much Thank you Yep! thanks, much appreciated
  2. Here are some pics of the ongoing solar eclipse from northern India! I travelled 400km to reach the path of annularity. It was an amazing experience! 98.5% sun obscured.
  3. I used photoshop, and lightroom for some touchup
  4. Combined 2 exposures for this shot, few hours before the eclipse started. Managed to get a good composition with the tree and clouds at the right time EOS R, Sigma 150-600mm lens @400mm
  5. Excellent image! always great to see a fellow Indian here. If you don't mind me asking, where do you get the equipment in India from? (like the ZWO camera, orion guidescope, filters etc) Thanks
  6. Hi, I was researching options for an astrophotography scope, and I saw that the Skywatcher Evostar 150ED is an APO scope (apochromatic refractor). It was also listed as an ED Doublet scope. I saw from research that APO telescopes are better for imaging compared to Achromatic, since they don't have chromatic abberation. I also saw the Esprit 150 which is a triplet, and much more expensive. I wanted to ask if someone could explain what is the meaning of ED doublet, and what the difference between that and a triplet is. I've seen conflicting info on this online, so I just wanted to clear my doubt. Is the Skywatcher evostar 150ED a good scope for imaging, or will it have false color/ chromatic abberation? the Esprit 150 is a bit out of my budget. also, is the EQ6 R pro mount suitable for it? Thanks - Shivam
  7. Thanks for the Advice I am leaning towards the 150mm ED refractor, but I'll do some more research.
  8. Hi everyone, I'm a 20 year old Astronomy hobbyist from India. I've been doing mostly visual observing using a celestron nexstar 8se and an alt-az mount for the last 4 years. I bought this primarily for visual observing, but The telescope and it's mount has had a lot of issues over the last few years (tracking issues, goto issues, coma, collimated many times but still images aren't sharp) and I've spent a while trying to fix these with little success, now I think I'd like a new telescope and an equatorial mount specifically geared toward deep sky long exposure photography. I also have an interest in planetary, and I really want to get a setup that can image polar caps of mars, cloud bands on saturn, small features on the moon etc. As for deep sky, I'm interested in galaxies and nebulas. (like M51, Helix nebula, dumbell nebula etc). I have a canon EOS R full frame camera, and a 150-600mm sigma lens, so I thought that for widefield targets like M31, M42 etc, I can just use my camera + lens (+skyguider pro type tracker?) I'm also considering getting a dedicated astrophotography webcam type camera in the future (I have a neximage 5 already) I live in a bortle class 8 city, but I hope to be able to travel with my setup to nearby darker skies in the near future. I've been researching a lot, and I was considering the Bresser Messier 152L refractor, 150mm apeture and 1200mm focal length, but I was wondering why not many people use it for Deep sky astrophotography considering its affordable price. I realised that it is a achromatic scope, and hence will suffer from chromatic aberration. I'm not sure whether this is a big problem or not, for planets and galaxies. (does using a mono camera + filter wheel help here?). An APO of an equivalent size is too expensive, and I thought that getting a smaller APO to fit in my budget won't have the focal length I require. I have also looked at Evostar 150mm ED, which is an APO, quite expensive (more so after import duties here in India) but I can consider it if it is worth it. One other thing I have considered is a newtonian reflector of around 10kg or less preferably with a high focal length, but I haven't looked into it too much so if you have any recommendation for a newtonian that will serve my purpose better than a refractor, then it is most appreciated. As for mounts, I was looking at the EQ6 R pro due to its high capacity, and I won't have to worry about upgrading due weight for a long time. if I get a smaller scope, I can consider a smaller mount also. Sorry for writing so much, but I wanted to give as much context as possible. Any advice is highly appreciated. Best regards, Shivam
  9. woke up at 4am to photograph Mars, Saturn, Jupiter while they were high up, and found venus and mercury after sunset Nexstar 8SE, Neximage 5 processed using autostakkert and registax seeing wasn't great, plus I've been having some collimation issues with my scope. But hope they aren't too bad mercury: Venus and mercury: Jupiter: Mars: Saturn: Venus:
  10. First moonbow I've ever seen! made using a high pressure car washer in spray mode. it's not a natural one but still an amazing sight canon EOS R 24mm f/6.3 ISO 600 20"
  11. Here are 4 images I took showing venus passing through Pleiades Canon EOS R 600mm
  12. It was a bit hazy but managed to get a decent shot Canon eos R and sigma 600mm lens
  13. Here is another image showing the progression of the eclipse. All times are in IST.
  14. Here are some pics I took tonight of the penumbral Lunar eclipse taken from India celestron powerseeker70az scope and canon 600d pre eclipse (10:35 pm IST) 1 hour before max eclipse (11:50 pm IST) maximum eclipse (12:40 am IST)
  15. Thanks, I used a Nexstar 8SE and a neximage 5 camera with an orion lunar filter attatched. I live in the middle of a big city so seeing wasn't too good. Didn't use a barlow. Ill try to re-process the Clavius with less frames
  16. Here are two photos I took last night This was my first time trying close ups of the moon! Celestron 8SE and neximage 5
  17. Hi everyone, I just returned from a vacation to New Zealand, and managed to get a good enough sky in Queenstown to be able to easily see the milky way with naked eye for the first time. This is my first proper photograph of the milky way, still have lots to learn in processing but hope its still decent 17 frames taken at 18 second exposures, Canon 600d with the kit lens (18-55) used deep sky stacker and pixinsight to process.
