  1. Yes, the moonlite is the focuser on my AT106LE and the last night test went great. My problem is finally solved. Emil
  2. I've done a star test last night. Defocused vega in the center of the frame, measured the circles and everything looks great. Moved the defocused star to where the problem is (left and mostly bottom left) and the defocused star is still round but the circles are not concentric. Today I decided to take the moonlite off it and check what's happening and discovered the flange wasn't screwed in properly. Tonight, I'll do another star test and I have a feeling that everything will be ok. 🤞🤞🤞 Emil

  4. I have the same problem on my AT106LE. Was wondering if it could be pinched optics. It's mostly on the left, more towards the bottom left. I'll try to do a star test tonight. Emil
  5. Oh, yes, the Cocoon galaxy. I managed to capture quite a ot of the Ha in it only with a DSLR. Well, I can't say that I wasted the 2 nights when I was trying to capture the Ha for NGC3718. I had my widefield setup capturing Ha on a different target. Emil
  6. Haha, me neither but looking at what some people can achieve with insane integration time from light polluted zones I thought I would give it a try too. My plan was to get around 40 hours and considering I have 7 hours of Ha that I didn't manage to add, I'm quite close to what I was aming for but I don't know if I'm prepared to do it again. I spent nearly 3 months on shooting this target (that is 9 clear night in the UK, of course 😂😂😂). Emil

  9. This is the photo that inspired me to have a go at it. It's captured by Leonardo Orazi and it shows quite a lot of blue, especially in the fainter regions. Now I don't know if this is right or wrong but the qhy183m having such a high QE on the blue channel I think it's picking it up much easier than all the other channels. If I manage to add the Ha there might be a bit of a difference in the colours especially in the core region. Emil
  10. I only did the Ha when the moon was quite bright, no point in doing RGB and I was curious about it. The photo that made me start this target was in HaLRGB and that was anotjer reason if trying to capture some. That is such a great Ha target. I captured it in HaRGB and I might have it published the the August edition of the BBC Sky at Night 😁 That's my weak spot. 🙁
  11. Thank you guys. I will have another go at adding the Ha data, hopefully without losing the fainter parts of the galaxy. Any tips? So far I tried adding it to the red channel and using the HaRGB action from Annie's Astro tools. Instead of adding it to the LRGB photo maybe I should add it to the RGB and add the luminance after?   13. I can't say that it's finished but here's 29 hours and 31min of LRGB on the NGC3718. I have 7 hours of Ha data that I didn't manage to add because I felt I was losing more than gaining with it. I'm sure that at some point I'll manage to add it but for now I'll just leave it to LRGB. Hope you like it. Emil
  14. Thank you. I'm not entirely happy with how the stars look. If you zoom on the photo you'll see they are not quite round. They looked worse but after a few checks I noticed that a couple of the hex screws in the varilock were a bit loose so I tighten them up and there was a big improvement but they still look a bit weird. Can it be a reflection in the imaging train? I put a photo with a nice starfield in ccd inspector and it doesn't look bad.
  15. Last week a friend helped me build and install a pier in my back garden. A few days ago I put the Eq6 and the AT106 on it, tidied up the cables and balanced it as good as I could. Last night I had the chance to test it and I'm pretty pleased with it for the first test. I thought I was gonna spend most of the night trying to get a very good polar alignment, get the right distance for the flattenes, focus the main camera and the guidecam on the OAG but under my surprise, I got some bonus photos too. So here it is, M57 QHY183M, Baader L filter TSflat2 OAG, QHY5L-IIM 19x120sec with darks. Polar aligned with a polemaster in Sharpcap and guided with PHD2 Emil

The last 2 clear nights, after my main target went behind the trees in my garden, I set APT to move to this beautiful target in the Cygnus constellation. 130PDS, x0.9 coma corrector, EQ6 QHY183M with Baader 7nm Ha filter 31x300sec I will probably add some SII and OIII with my newly acquired AT106LE.   18. Yes, most of the canon lenses need it. The samyang 135mm performs very well at f2.8. A while ago I borrowed a canon 135mm and a canon 200mm from a friend to see how they are but when I've seen the results people get with the samyang 135mm f2, I set my mind on it and kept an eye on fleabay until I found an affordable one.
  19. Sorry, I forgot to say it. 😁 I shot the RGB with a modified canon 600D and the Ha with a modified canon 700d. The RGB was shot under bortle 4 skies and the Ha in my back garden, bortle 6. The lens was stopped down to f4 in both cases.
  20. A few nights ago, while I was waiting for my DSO target to come up ftom behind my house, I decided to have a go at the moon with the QHY183M. I used the red filter as I heard that it's reducing a bit the effects of the bad seeing. Hope you like it. 250 best frames out of 1000. Emil

  22. Last week, I didn't know what else to shoot with my Samyang 135mm f2 lens and I remembered that I had a RGB photo of the Cygnus region shot with a 50mm f1.8 lens. I decided to try and shoot some Ha with the same lens to see if there's an improvement. Very glad I did. I really like the outcome. I hope you like it too.   24. Another one shot with my canon 700D and the 135mm. NGC7822 This is 60x300sec ISO1600 with an Astronomik 6nm Ha clip in filter.
