I have pixinsight that I can use but have no clue on how to use masks. I also have photoshop (Noel Carboni's astronomy tools, Annie's action pack, Noise ninja, Nick's filter pack with Dfine for noise reduction) where I do most of my processing.

Wow, this looks so good. I tried soooo many times the star removal but I never got a good result. I have no clue how you guys are doing it. 😢 I have the pixinsight starnet plugin, I have the standalone version too, Annie's action pack in Ps, Straton. Tried them all and I just can't get a good result. Would you mind sharing how you are doing it please, do you do it on a stretched or unstretched photo? At what point in the process do you do it? And lately I get an error when trying the pix plugin, Check point not found or something like that. Emil

Hello again. Last night I was up a bit later than usual to try and finish my cave nebula. I think there's a lot I need to learn on using the noise reduction properly, on reducing the big fat stars properly and controlling the halos. Looks good when I look at it from far away or on my phone 😂 but when you zoom in it's 😱. Am I crazy? I would really appreciate if you guys would tell me when in the process you use the noise reduction and what noise reduction techniques you use. Thanks Emil

I gathered some more data and reprocessed it. This is what I came up with. now, 40x600sec Ha, 32x600sec Oiii and 32x600sec Sii.

Tonight I got a result that I really like. A 4 panel mosaic on IC1396, the Elephant Trunk nebula. The photos were shot with my ASI294MC Pro, Altair Tri-Band filter on a TS65 quadruplet telescope mounted on my EQ3 Pro and guided by a QHY5 camera on a 9x50 finder-guider. 25x600sec Gain 200 Offset 10 for each of the panels, stacked and blended in APP, ABE in pixinsight and everything else in Photoshop Shot from my back garden on the outskirts of London 😱😱 I hope you like it too. This photo needs more work. I don't think I processed it properly and I have no clue of how to do it to make it nicer, smoother. The Ha is taking over when combining into SHO making the photo very green and I find it very hard to balance the colours. I initially had 19x600sec Oiii but I couldn't do much with that and I added another 12x600sec. I added the Ha as luminance to clean it a bit but it still doesnt look right. I added a screenshot of some calibrated singles Ha, Sii and Oiii photos. The stars seem to be much fatter in the Sii photos. Would adding more data help? But what to add, Ha, Sii or Oiii? I have 30x600sec Ha, 29x600sec Sii and 31x600sec Oiii Emil

To give you an idea, this is my first attempt in processing it but I really hated the halos and started all over again.

This week we had quite a few clear nights and with the moon being very big and bright I thought I should put my Tri-Band filter to the test. I also didn't know what to shoot with my wide-field setup so I thought of trying the Dumbbell nebula even though it would look much better shot with a longer focal length. So here it is, 99x300sec with my ASI294MC Pro, TS65 quadruplet and the Altair Tri-Band filter on the EQ3 mount. I did my best to bring out a bit of the wings, I think some 600sec exposures would've helped. The problem I have with the Tri-Band filter is that, even though I put it as close as possible to the sensor, it creates some massive, really ugly halos. It took me forever to process it without exposing them using small baby steps to mask the area after each tiny stretch. I can say that I'm happy with it but I would be even happier if I could've brought out more of the wings. Emil

A few weeks ago I went on a dark skies trip to take some photos of the night sky. I didn't have enough time to finish my plan but I managed to capture some more data on the Cocoon nebula too. I posted the result that I got from my back garden a while ago but the 6x3 minutes from the bortle 4 location changed the final result so much and this is the result. Equipment used: Eq3 Pro TS65 quadruplet f6.5 imaging telescope ZWO ASI294MC PRO cooled at -15°C Altair 2" TriBand filter, 2" IDAS LPS-D1 Qhy5 guide camera 9x50 finder-guider The image is the result of 88x300sec Gain 200 Offset 10 exposures with the Tri-Band filter shot in my back garden on the outskirts of London and 6x180sec, same gain and offset, shot from a bortle 4 location. My first proper result from Astropixel Processor and my first proper mosaic. Was supposed to be a bit bigger but somehow I had a different rotation of the camera on one of the panels so had to crop it. 4 panels, 20x600sec per panel shot with my ASI294MC Pro and the Tri-band filter on the TS65 Quad. Stacked and calibrated in APP, extracted the Ha and Oiii and blended them as HOO. Initial stretch in APP, everything else in Photoshop. Emil

Thank you. I'll do it when I get home. I just wanna make it as good as it can be done because I would really like to get my first printed image to put on the wall and I don't wanna regret I didn't do something to it that it could've made it better. Emil

Looking at the photo a few times, I realized I'm not 100% happy with it so I started all over again. This is the result. What do you think?

Most of the times I invert the image and do a HLVG (Hasta La Vista Green) to remove some of the magenta. I then return it to normal, select the stars using colour range, expand by 2, feather and play with the hue and saturation to get them close to what I like. After that I use the Increase the star colour action from the Noel Carboni's Astronomy tools a few times and the Reduce Star size action from Annie's Astro tools. I hope this helps. Emil

We had quite a few clear night in the last few weeks and I managed to finish capturing and processing the Propeller nebula. 16x600sec Ha with the 130PDS and 78x300sec in Ha with the AT106 29x600sec Oiii with the AT106 30x600sec Sii with the AT106 19 hours total integration time. Emil

I had another go at it but this time I combined them in AstroPixel Processor, I tweaked it a bit there and then moved it into photoshop and did everything else.

At the moment I'm shooting at 2.27"/pixel and I have a thought of trying to swap the ASI294MC with a camera with the IMX183 sensor. It would give me a pixel scale of 1.18"/pixel which I think it would be great for this scope.

Thanks Brian. The TS65Q is an absolute gem of a telescope for its price. I had mine for 2 years and I love it. So far I only used it with a dslr and only recently I started using a cooled camera with it. Here's a photo of M33 shot with it and a canon 600D

I added a bit more of the luminance to it. It looks a bit better to me.

Friday night was clear, yey. Friday night there was no moon, yey. So Friday night I went with a friend on the hills of South Downs National Park to shoot some stars under the nice bortle 4 skies. I always wanted to shoot some dark nebulae and I found that LDN 1235 was just right for my setup so I made it the main target for the night. I'm quite please with how it came out even though longer integration time would do it more justice. I used my travel setup, the EQ3 with the TS65Q and ASI294MC Pro cooled at -15C I shot 67x180sec at Gain 200 and Offset 30 Emil
