  1. I used to have a 12" dob and I used two star charts to find targets, first the Cambridge one to get to the rough area then the interstellarium to home in on it and that system worked well for me. I found the Cambridge atlas didn't quite give enough detail for the fainter targets. Also using a card with a hole cut out was essential for me! I made a couple yt videos for finding targets incase you find it useful!
  2. If your scope is a reflector Using a RACI finderscope would be easier than using a ep for starhopping. In a ep you will be getting a mirror image so it can make the task quite frustrating. Where as in a finderscope the image you see will be "correct".
  3. There was a magazine where you built one yourself. I think it was called "build your own solar system" you could probably find one that some one has completed online somewhere.
  4. Hunting down targets can be either the most frustrating or enjoyable parts of the hobby!! I can't add to what others have already said regarding equipment but have a look at this to see if it helps in your search! Good luck! https://youtu.be/sKoKnZLPMf8
  5. Not a problem mark. I have replied to your message, but just to make it clear to everyone that I am neither asking for a refund or, more importantly, casting doubt on @Plantins honesty! I got a good deal and with the correct cleaning fluid it is something easily solved👍👍
  6. I can assure you it is the same eyepiece. Why would I lie? I have not asked for a refund and have no axe to grind with you. When I took the photo the flash was on which would have highlighted any extra dust. I have ordered a bottle of Baader wonder fluid from Flo which should clean it up no problem.
  7. My thinking is that for the price it is worth a shot. I can always resell it if need be. I will be collecting it tomorrow missing so will find out!
  8. I have a sneaky feeling that he might have😉😉 Thanks @Captain Magentafor the tip of👍 The funny thing is that when this came up I was engaged in another post debating whether i should get a 31mm or a 22mm eyepiece! I hope I made the right decision🤞🤞🤞
  9. Well despite what stellarium says-it appears that the planets are aligned!! In the course of this thread a Nagar 31mm came up on eBay for a bit of a steal. Well who I'm I to argue with the will of the universe😁😁 Thanks everyone for their advice! I just hope I get a couple clear nights before the wife finds out what I've done 😳😳😳
  10. Right-I'm very close to buying this-can anyone suggest a reason why I shouldn't? It will be for a 12" dob. I already have the explore scientific 82° in 6.7, 11 and 18mm and this will finish off my collection. Yay or nay?
  11. Cheers John. The reason I was thinking about the 30 was because I already have the 18 and would have thought that the 24 might be a bit close?
  12. What's the quality difference between the esc and the Nagar. Again the price difference has put me in a quandary!!
  13. Right that's that settled then🤣🤣 @rl @globular Cheers for pointing that out! No, I hadn't noticed!!! Glad I posted now🤣🤣
  14. Right I need to ask people's opinion. Ah the minute the biggest hole in my ep collection is a wide field. At the minute I'm using the explore scientific range 82° and have the 6.7, 11, and 18mm for use on my 12"dob. I'm now looking at getting the 30mm for clusters etc. FLO retail these at £309 which is fine. However I'm also starting to find my eyes drawn to the 100° version however these retail at £950!!. So why the big difference in price and how much of a difference does it really make. Is it worth spending 3x what the 82° version costs or are the benefits not worth the tag? Any advice would be appreciated! It would be a expensive mistake to make!!
  15. My favourite target with my 8" was m81/82- I've recently upgraded to a 12" and some nice explore scientific eyepieces but not had a chance to get a look at these two yet🤣🤣🤣 roll on the dark nights!
  16. Very true. To be honest I have both the interstellarium and the Cambridge star atlas and use both our in the field. I use the Cambridge in conjunction with my telrad to find my "starting" start and then jump on to the idsa and finder to hop my way to the target.
  17. World the idsa not be a bit detailed for using with a telrad? Allot of what is shown you won't be able to see-maybe a smaller scale atlas would be more use? That being said I have it for use with my 8x50 finder and is the dogs!!!
  18. If you are aiming from planets rather than DSO then try looking at refractors. I agree that you get more bang for your buck with dobs but the sharpness with a refractor is fantastic for planets.
  19. Great scope! I highly recommend getting a telrad. It will help you no end with locating targets. As for eyepieces I know that the bst range are a good value first upgrade-just remember that good quality eyepieces are as important and as the scope itself so always get the best you can afford! Personally I'm old school when it comes to finding targets so I'm going to recommend getting a star atlas rather than a app😁😁 Oh, and a planisphere is always useful! Good luck!
  20. Looking to get a set of 12x60's but due to a severe lack of work over the last year I am in a restricted budget of about £100. They will mainly be getting used for terrestrial viewing on the boat more then for astronomy. Any advice? Thanks.
