Congratulations on the new toy and I hope you get to enjoy it soon.
Bias frames work fine with this camera subtracted from the flats. I get away with using the bias as darks and dithering takes care of hot pixels.
I might try taking darks again to see if there's any difference, I think I tried this when I got the camera first and couldn't notice any improvement.

Curious black spots on an otherwise very busy image, dust lanes and molecular clouds in the plane of the milky way i assume?
I would imagine yes, dust between us and the stars.

I’d perhaps (as per the first post), just temper the background stars a tad to lift /separate the foreground cluster… then an anti-clockwise 90 degree rotation, crop down a bit onto said cluster… and bingo, you have a perfect ‘Christmas Tree’ shape to make your own festive cards!
But forgetting the Christmas card idea, a super shot, lovely flat field and great colours….
D
Thanks, I spotted that Christmas tree too👍

Love the detail but hope you don't mind constructive criticism, to me it looks a little over exposed and the colour isn't quite right to my eyes.
I don't mind at all, this image was taken with a big bright moon so colour balance is an issue, also very little background there to properly balance. I've added another version above.

I should add as Vlaiv has stated that it's not that much of an issue. I did however notice with my Asi1600 that those glow areas had less contrast. I'd always prefer to have a sensor without those issues as I don't bother with darks with my Imx571.

My understanding is that the signal you actually want in the area that has amp glow is swamped by the amp glow. Remove the glow and that area now has a lower signal to noise ratio than the rest of the image.

Mono has the potential to give a better end result, but what if someone has a torrid time actually reaching that point?
I can remember spending hours thinking I was capturing Lum when I was actually capturing Red. Fun night😃

The forums have been suggesting that to Mabula for years, but nothing's happened.
Such a simple thing to implement, why not give the user control? I should decide what gets saved, not the program. The amount of files I then have to delete is nuts.

To me there's no logic in the need to have to check/uncheck multiple boxes and change integration settings every time I open the program, what a waste of life that is. Why not let the user setup profiles and give the option to also open in default? 🤔

🤣 Yup, been there. Disapproving looks come from the living too when it happens.

Or I could just post my data that I took with my dual rig mono and OSC ☺️
I vote for data👍

I am always trying to create a better version of the last attempt of an object and I’m super critical of my own work so I guess the answer is yes!
Then it's simple, get the best mono camera you can afford. If I wasn't saving for a house move I'd get a mono imx571 and I've got the Osc version.

I’m just wondering if it’s still worth the effort to commit several nights to an object when I see so many fine examples of OSC with dual band filter versions?
That really depends on what your goals are. Do you want to create the finest possible image?

Very Jammy!
I always end up with a lot of iterations saved. I never thought about it but good point about the settings.
Not just me then, should be an easy feature to add. Maybe I should make the suggestion to Mabula.

That’s a well setup system Richard, stars are fantastic edge to edge. I think APP does a great job and gets 90% there in this case. I’d be happy with that as a final image (maybe with a bit more data!)
Thanks Adam, I really cant take the credit for the system setup as it arrived collimated and all I did was sort out the back focus, how jammy is that?
APP is probably my favorite piece of software, I can't get anywhere near the same results with anything else I've tried. There are a few things that bug me a little though mainly the fact that all the settings you choose reset to default after closing and the way it makes you save your alterations, including rotating. Maybe there's something I'm missing?

This is a top class image, the detail is wonderful and processing is spot on. Lovely muted tones too.

Hi all, this is my version of M31 completely unprocessed with edge artifacts included. All I did with this image was an autostretch in APP and saved as a jpeg in PI. Always fun capturing M31.
I captured these data on Wednesday night. Despite the bright moon the osc managed well. 86 minutes in 60 second subs with my trusty Asi 2600mc through an Epsilon 160ed and mounted on an AzEq6.
Captured with Sequence generator pro
Unprocessed in APP and PI
Hope you like it
Richard.

With the moon about that really is lovely.

Very nice, you did well to get anything considering the how bright the moon was.

Very nice, some great detail in that.

have my own experience to go on and to me that point of time was the swap from dslr to ccd, it literally blew me away!
@tooth_dr went from an 8300 to an imx571 mono so I would think he would be able to guide you.

That image was captured in 4.5 hrs with Osc Imx571 under bortle 4 skies with an F/3.3 instrument. What are your skies like?

what would I benefit by buying a newer CMOS camera?
The answer to this surely is that it depends on which Cmos camera you would buy.
The Imx 571/455 mono cmos sensors would be vastly superior to your ccd and your images would reflect that, however the cost difference is not insignificant, especially when you factor in filters etc.
I think the ccd vs cmos "debate" makes no sense. It's much more fruitful to debate the merits of one sensor vs another while considering your own imaging location and equipment.

Hi Adrian and Lee, it's a great image, nice to collaborate too.
I'm going to go against the grain regarding the second image. I found the first very pleasing to the eye but the saturation in the trunk area especially the blue went a little too far imo. I think the squid looks great in the second though. Take what I have to say with a grain of salt as my saturation taste changes by the image and it only really matters what you guys prefer.

Keep adding to it Mick, makings of a fine image.

Loss of OAG focus changing filters
in Discussions - Cameras

I have this same issue and need to refocus the oag after I change from rgb imaging to duoband. It's not really a big deal for me as I have a zwo helical focuser and Ive marked the two focus points. I did need to add a baader Uv/ir filter for rgb imaging just to get to the proper back focus for my Epsilon. I also considered going with a clear filter and I can't recall why I went with the Uv in end. I wonder now if that was a mistake.
