Just under 4kg with rings, finder, diagonal and eyepiece.

And fits into a camera backpack

I guess it would be greedy to ask for some clear skies.

  2. If your son is interested in learning the constellations and the names of the bright stars, I recommend "The stars, a new way to see them" by H A Rey.  It also contains the rudiments of the earth's rotation, the seasons, celestial co-ordinates,  etc .  It's not up-to-date, but it doesn't need to be.

Not too bizzarre. My 12 inch dob is as quick to setup as any of my refractors.

This discussion is (to my mind) makes a great and realistic contrast to something I read - not sure where, maybe CN - about how easy it was to move a 12" Meade LX200.  Having had, and sold the 10" and then the 8" version, I could not disagree (not with John re a 12"Dob necessarily) more.

When you have different levels and narrow doors to navigate, portabilty becomes essential, unless you have a permanent installation.

I'm now living in a flat and observe from my balcony.  There are no steps to get outside and I have a wide sliding door, and not far to go.  Without that the AZ100 would have been a non-starter.

Oops! You are correct, I managed to confuse myself - should never mix imperial and metric measurements...and I'm definitely metric.

So you 0.965 eyepieces, in which case you'll need to buy an adapter if you want to use 1.25, easily available and not too expensive.

I'd agree with the eyepiece being 0.965".  I have one just like it.

Aren't the adapters usually to enable 0.965" eyepieces to be used in 1.25" tubes/diagonals and not the other way round?

Could some kind soul with an AZ100 give me an idea of what the mount head plus a dual fit DT clamp on one side plus the Rowan DT bar and bracket might weigh in total ?

I did actually have this combination when I was trying out the beta examples but I didn't weigh the whole setup that I was using, rather stupidly.

    Thanks :icon_biggrin:

Including the nexus, tray and cables, mine is 11.6 kg - with cw bar but no counterweight.  Also includes the base adapter to fit an EQ5 tripod.
