  1. Taken at 01-15 this morning,  no alignment, no tracking, very poor focus and through Double Glazing back bedroom window , not naked eye so Telrad finder no good had to scout around to get it on screen, a single 5sec sub

  2. Good news: The Comet is intact and can be seen in the UK with binoculars just prior to Sunrise with a good view East, only still at around 3deg Lat though.

Bad News:  The weather is its usually self, Rubbish

  3. I have tried ASICap, ASIlive, easy peasy, anyone using/tried ASIimage (DSO), if so what is your workflow please, a lack of instructions is frustrating for someone wishing to image for post processing to improve their efforts, at the moment i do EAA but would like to have a go at imaging with this software.

  4. Downloaded this new software from ZWO cameras, (v1.1.1) looks very promising and far less overloaded UI than is Sharpcap which I found a bit too elaborate.

Have tested the ASIstudio with my asi 533 and is a doddle to use the main functions, ZWO have intimated further development of this free package software.

Same here, and I would add that in daylight you will not see it.
Go into a dark room, then try it, probably just night dim that does not show in daylight.
And check your batteries, they also give similar control issues as voltage drops on my Telrad,
just becuase they are new does not mean they are fresh and full.

I have aligned my Telrad to Scope in daylight, just hold your hand over the front of the Telrad and the circle appears, align & adjust it by looking through a couple of fingers keeping the outer circles showing on your fingers, until the center circle is in tune with your eyepiece.

As for turning on, sometimes i have to rotate to full, back, and then full again to get the circle illuminated, also I have found it best to not have the circle on full power but adjust its brightness depending on which star you are aligning.

  6. Steve, as with everything else regarding Astro equipment its a case of what your budget can run to.

ZWO are a good choice for both Planetary & Deep Space imaging, ideally if you can afford it they do have One Shot Colour Cameras that also can image Deep Sky also, bear in mind that the Major Planets are not good for viewing at the moment and will be quite a while before they are high enough in the night sky.

There is a forum on here for Video imaging and also on Cloudy Nights which is another good site to join.

For my West Yorkshire backyard  sky (bortle 😎 I am going to Stick with a OSC, with a optolong or zwo duo band filter, & sharpcap.

The new OSC CMOS cameras are very sensitive with low noise and image capture in colour is a lot easier learning curve than messing with Mono & filters etc.

The duo band filter is a good LP suppressor & boosts certain Emission Nebula colour.

The Mono cameras are a favourite amongst some folk, but not for me.

I was torn between the 294 & 533 , the square sensor and FOV of the 533 is sufficient through my 80 mm Espirit to capture the images I want.

Each to their own and as is often said regarding astro gear, it is a very subjective subject !!

On order ZWOASI533pro with FLO, due March sometime hopefully,  🤔

    regards

    Eric

ZWO 533 pro arrived, optolong L-eNhance dual band filter arrived, next step, as I do EAA mostly is to try the new ASI Studio software, simple UI and although in its initial development looks ready made for EAA enthusiasts, Sharcap although tried & tested software has a steep learning curve and I found 'glitches' in its stacking of images, so next clearish night I will have a go with the ZWO Studio software and see how things go.

    regards

    eri

Tried the ASI Studio software, easy peazy, good stacking with no star count issues like I was getting thrown up in the more sophisticated Sharpcap 3.2 every time I tried to stack, came up with either not enough or too many stars, even after tinkering with it, very frustrating, wouldn't be too bad if we had plenty of clear decent nights in W/Yorks then i could afford to fine tune my skills on Sharcap, but ZWO ASI Studio is lookng very promising, especially with the mentioned additions to the software.

  8. Hi Steve, the site here is not used as much since WADAS started a Facebook Group.

There are places in & around Sutton Bank we have used that are not frequented by the funny crowd !!,  due to the light nights the group is not very active again until mid/late August when the sky starts getting darker, I myself cannot advice you on Deep sky Photography as i do EAA (Deep Sky Video imaging), but quite a few WADAS members do use DSLR cameras for their imaging.

There is a small camp site we have used at Scawton about 10-15mins on from Sutton Bank called Bungdale Head Farm YO7 2HH.

Hopefully another member may be of further use to with using your DSLAR.

    regards

  9. Hi Damian, yes its been a strange year all round I think, I miss going to a reasonable dark sight, shame no one wants to go to Winscar anymore, I know the sky had got poorer there over last 2 year and some undesirables hanging around ( not wadas lol), I liked Sutton Bank, bit further but  not bad, I am a bit concerned going to the site at Towton as we dont have permission and it is private land, anyway, lets wait and see how things develop later this year.

    Stay safe

  10. Had a try of the asilive software the other night, i decided to try a more difficult target with the sky at this time of the year not being dark from my backyard (bortle 6), NGC 7380 Wizard Neb, 30 sec exp x 120 on a Alt/Az mount, I did crop a little and minimal stretch  applied but nothing else as , it looks very promising

I apologise for the target not being centered.

and with the expected additional improvements as noted by ZWO will maybe turn out a great software for EAA.
