Nice shot! I've got a Astromaster 90 (on an EQ mount) and I can say it's a very good performer. I use it for Scouts/Cub astronomy evenings. I might try to get the kids to use their phones next time.

I just noticed, you started that previous post - was there something else you wanted to know about the EQ5 pro mount?

Thoughts?
What would you like to know? It's a good mount for smaller telescopes and imaging with a budget. I use one with my Skymax 150 for lunar, planetary and solar imaging and it gives good results. I also used it beyond its max payload for imaging deep sky and it did work if the scope was properly balanced. However, I agree with other members points in the post below about the benefits of a HEQ5. I got the EQ5 when I was starting the hobby and I did not want to commit tones of cash early on. Later I got the AZEQ6 but the EQ5 is still in service.
Take a look at the previous post here...

Hopefully when I have fitted the lens to the mount I can run some comparisons between the premium camera lens and my Esprit 100.

Great! I just ordered the 18cm Astro essentials dovetail bar from FLO. I have some spare bolts so and they should fit into the recess on the underside of the bar!
-
Ok I think the medium vixen bar will not quite fit the holes on the lens so instead I will get the shorter 18cm bar. It has slots instead of holes so should be easy to fit!

Hi @Skipper BillyI just measured the screw holes in the foot of the mount...looks like they are separated by 3.6cm, shorter than my long vixen dovetail. Hi there
@Philip R do you know if the two holes in the medium Vixen dovetail match with the mounting foot (separated by 3.6cm)?
Thanks for all your help!

Thanks for the replies, I do have a spare vixen dovetail and I can run a screw through one of the holes but the spacing is different on the lens foot so I can only get one screw in. I may have to drill a new hole through the dovetail bar to get this to work...

Hi there everyone,
I was recently loaned a long telephoto lens (Canon EF 500mm F4), it's a fantastic lens and I really want to do some AP with it but I am not sure what's the best way to mount it. I have a AZ EQ6 mount with an ADM Side-by-side bar which accepts both Vixen and Losmandy dovetails. Does anyone know of a solution. Here's a couple of photos:
The mounting bar currently attached to the lens foot is too wide for a Vixen attachment bar and too narrow for a Losmandy.
Thanks everyone

Nice result! I got a similar view with my Skymax 150. I want to go out again soon and capture the crescent thinning!

Really good timelapse, nicely done. Interesting when the street light turns off you see the sky glow and then the flood light turns on next door; sort of a rock and a hard place. Even so, your sky looks great overhead.

Really nice view! Nicely done.

Just noticed that IC 4617 is 470 mly far !! Thats some distance to have captured.
The light hitting my camera was almost half a billion years old! Quite unbelievable really...

There is a very faint elliptical galaxy just below and to the right of the star I labelled...it could be that.

Interesting...Thanks for the reply Waddensky. 6.3% of NGC objects are single stars or not locatable! That's a lot!

A silly topic, but it has been bugging me for a few days...
I was looking at all the named objects in the area around M13 and I noticed NGC 6199 shown as a Dark Nebula. On Google, it is shown as a single star...I don't see how these objects made it into the NGC (I assume there must be other objects like it in the NGC).
Was it compiled more like a historical list before people really knew what the objects were?

No luck here despite our considerable preparation. A couple of gaps were so transient there wasn't time to even focus properly. Fortunately an internet live stream entertained the visitors. ☹️
No matter! It was good visiting anyway.

Mine is almost here! I've set aside a special spot for it in the spare room...

They certainly are!
I ordered one in mid June, I keep having to remind myself it's coming!

I'm sure it will be worth the wait! Not long now...

I asked this question to FLO and their answer was no. The do provide an adapter that screws in front between the flatterer and focuser that will accept 2'' filters.
Here's the link:

Dont be fooled. Altair scopes are clones (as are a few others) The bottom line is the Esprit range are tried and tested and I have yet to read a bad review of the range. I got a 120 for both visual and imaging but would buy an Esprit 80 without hesitation. Google and you will see little if any negative stuff on the Esprit 80. PS An interferometric test sheet is a rather expensive bit of paper I think. SW dont supply one. I doubt they need to as the Esprit range are of very high quality.
Thanks for that Vangelis, always thought that Skywatcher quality control was the compromise you make for the (relative) lower price tag...Perhaps the Esprit range is the exception here.
I am feeling more drawn to the Esprit 80 or even the 100 as they both provide the wide fast views I am looking for.

The more expensive one seems to have exactly the same specs (R&P focusser, FPL53 glass) as this one from TeleSkop Service:
Which is considerably cheaper. I have the earlier APM counterpart (same optics, different focuser), which provides very nice results indeed. I am not sure if it is in Esprit 80 league, but I like it a lot.
Interesting find thanks for that, it does look exactly the same minus the branding. The price difference worries me though...
EQ5 Pro, clearance / mount limits quesion.

I have an EQ5 Pro and this can happen if the RA is well past meridian and the Dec is low. This is never an issue when in operation as the computer would do a meridian flip.
