I'd suggest you are off-band for H-alpha. [Tuning.]
Or, the optics might be dewed from the cold. [Warm up]
Or, the blocking filter is cloudy.
Perhaps all, or some of the above.
I have no experience with commercial H-alpha scopes. Only my own PST mods.
Thank you for the suggestions. don't know about 1.. have tried all the 3 holes in which the tuner can be inserted. This is the best i get
2 and 3 were not the case...

The image looks a bit over exposed to me, have you tried shorter exposure times, or is this edited from a much darker/short exposure?
edited from a short exposure.. though i tried other exposures as well. There are hardly any details in visual as well

Try contacting OpticStar the UK distributor for Meade
Thank you... hope they deal with aftermarket scopes as well.

Does anyone have an idea where i can send a secondhand solarmax 60 (so out of warranty) to be looked at and possibly repaired? It just shows a mostly flat featureless disc, like seeing the sun in white light with prominences added. Turning the knob just gets rid of prominences without adding detail. i thought previously this might have been due to the sun not having much features when i bought it, but i think now the eatlon may be having issues. having owned a lunt 35 and a quark earlier, i know there must be more which is missing. My lunt 35 showed more features in the solar minimum
An image is attached below. surely there must be more detail which my 174m should be able to pull out

Hi all,
I tried flat fielding for the first time in AS3! yesterday but I failed miserably. Please can someone advise what has gone wrong here? To give an idea, I've stacked the light frames without the flat, this is attached below alongwith the flat and the result which i get when i stack using the flat.

Hiya, my DS is a bit of both. The single stack is pressure tuned but the double stack is tilt turned so I'd guess you can get a better degree of overall illumination. Best to slightly over expose so that you can see where the illumination lies, is, off center or centered. Is off center tweak the tilt or even turn the camera or both. Until fairly centered. It makes the post processing so much easier.
Imaging Technique to attain on band HA and full illumination

That's great to know.. 4 years of doing Ha and I didn't try that..
Thanks will give it a shot next time. I have the hypercam 174 so got plenty of space to move the sun around on the sensor

Can you actually get even illumination with a tilt tuned scope. Lunt is pressure tuned if I'm not wrong..

Nice, thanks for sharing 🙂
I just received a PST 2 weeks ago, but haven't even seen the Sun naked eye 😆
Think I need to buy a cloud scope, yeah, that should fix my issues 😂
Good luck..

Promising start, crack the focus and you will be in business.
Yep.. That just means ordering a new focuser. I opened up the motor to see all plastic gears in disarray. Positioned them in original order, it ran for a min then again messed up

It is as the above. that knob in the holes, that is the tuning bit i think. the front of the tube does not rotate as its a single stack only.
