It's nice and clean at the moment, but not back in yet. 2 of the mirror clamp bolts broke off. There are 10 more so I am going to see how it holds. If it shifts around I will see if i can replace them.

Still not done it yet! Been side tracked by my wife wanting to go to shops. She going out with the dogs later. I"m getting mentally prepared to jump into action.

You only need to consider three things when doing this -
1. be careful
2. be careful
3. be careful
I hope it goes well for you - this link *might* help
Thanks for the link. Your video is the one I was going to follow. 😀

Planned for later today. I will take some pictures. You can uncross your fingers for a bit and cross them again about 3pm. Thank you.🤣

Thanks. I will need to keep my bouncy puppy out of the way too.

I"m going to clean my mirror for the first time tomorrow. I"m a bit clumsy. Fingers crossed it stays in one piece

Great report. I expect detailed sketches too next time!😃

I will always want a bigger scope, but intend to keep my 250px. It is easy to carry out to the patio, doesn"t take up too much room and is a decent size aperture for planetary detail or finding DSOs atva dark site. Would still love to have a 20"+ though!

Just watching now. I wasn"t expecting that.

Great result. Think I might have to try it myself.

Nice image. I was looking at Jupiter and the seeing was terrible. Your image confirms that my sketch is about right. Thanks for posting!

It is a small world. Since we visited, that camp site became more popular than usual due to Covid. It was booked up all summer. ☹️
On Monday 14th September I'm off to Kielder Campsite for three nights solo camping. I emailed Steve the manager before booking explaining I was a solo amateur astronomer and got a good deal. 🤫
Kielder is one of my favourite places to camp and unwind. Coming up from the Midlands it"s a nice drive once I reach the Lake District too. Of course there's the forest, Kielder Water and the observatory as well as really dark skies. Saw the Aurora for the first time from Kielder. My wife is more than happy to get rid of me for a few days too!

Quite right Stu - such filters do help with nebulae under LP skies - in some cases at least you see something !
Yes on my post above I said the OIII was the difference between seeing and not seeing the veil from my back garden. I probably should also make it clear that 'seeing' means with averted vision or scope wobble i can just see a slight difference in contrast. Somebody new to astronomy could still miss the neb. I"m not talking about great photo like images!

I used to buy pretty all of the astro mags I could get from W H Smith. Now I listen to a few podcasts and rarely buy mags, especially as all the W H Smiths near me have closed. I did take up the offer of 6 S&N for £10 though.

What aperture scope are you using to see it from Dudley Bish? It still eludes me from my similar bortle skies here in London with my 8.75”
I am using a 10" scope. The conditions need to be very good too.

My baader OIII means I can make out the veil in my very light polluted back garden. No chance without it . Of course under a dark sky it really pops out.

I can't really justify it, unfortunately .
I have the Delos 14mm, the Ethos 13mm, the Pentax XW 10mm and the Ethos 8mm. And a zoom which covers 7.2mm - 21.5mm for good measure.
They are the ONLY reasons that I've not bought a Tele Vue 11mm Apollo of course

I forgot the apollo 11. My wife would throw me and my scope out!!

I owned all the Nagler T6's at one time, except the 11mm !
In fact I don't think I've owned an 11mm eyepiece for around 20 years for some reason
I expect the ES 11mm 82 is a pretty decent eyepiece and close to Nagler performance.
Good excuse to order yourself a shiny new 11mm? I have mainly been using meade hd 60"s which are not bad but a bit over priced I think.

How about a Baader Morpheus 12.5mm?
Beautiful wide angle eyepiece (76 degrees but much better eye relief than the T6 13mm (which was one of the few Tele Vue EPs I've owned, and a very good one).
The Morpheus 12.5mm would be around £190 new, or c £120 or so used. Think Pentax XW or TV Delos optical quality.
HTH,
Dave
Thanks Dave, I will check them out. Extra eye relief is a bonus for me.

The original T1 11mm or the T6 11mm? The former was very rare because it was quickly discontinued due to poor sales.
I assume it was T6. Bought it new about 10 years ago.

The Explore Scientific 82 degree series are almost as good, and less than half the price, also ES still do an 11 mm one, which Tele Vue have discontinued.
John
Thanks John, that sounds ideal.

Hello all,
I used to have an 11mm nag which I used a lot but had to sell. I am looking for something similar. I was thinking of trying a 13mm nag, but from what I remember of past discussions there are cheaper alternatives that are quite close in performance. It would just be for my 250px. I intend to make the most of dark sky visits so do want high end performance. Ethos are out of my price range!
Thanks

Great result with a phone. Seeing for last night was terrible. You got a better picture with your phone.
