  1. Just a quick peek with the bins at some late winter objects- M46/47 looking good, M93 easily seen which means good transparency, M44 coming into view nicely. Finally a nice clear night!

  2. Venus and Saturn looking nice together.. and a star that must be Antares.. and how old is that Moon?

  3. Went out at 7.20 and saw a bit of clear sky! Too light to go spring Messier hunting by then but dark enough for a look at Jupiter and the moons

  4. Think I just saw a bright fireball low in the NW

  5. Visible just now: Ursa Major, the whole Summer Triangle, Fomalhaut and Orion. The Four Seasons Sky!

  6. Finally that pesky streetlight decides not to work and yet cloud refuses to clear off

  7. Wow that's the darkest lunar eclipse I've ever seen..

  8. What a clear night. Never knew M39 could be a naked eye object before!

At 5am could pick out Betelgeuse, Bellatrix, Rigel and the belt in the gathering dawn. Too light to see M42 though.

  10. Sky seems abnormally bright at the moment even for midsummer; impossible to see any objects below about mag 7 in binocularseven well away from the moon...

  11. First properly clear night in 3 weeks and the moon is drowning everything! Hopeless trying to look at Sagittarius, had to make do with the brighter globs like M3, M5, M13, M92

  12. First time able to see anything for 2 weeks- not great with moon and summer twilight but picked up M3, M51 and Albireo

  13. Finally caught Venus in daylight. Been trying for weeks

  14. 2 faint stars in Cancer posing as extra Jovian moons very well

The odd star or five tends to do this at times, equally there is enough of them behind Jupiter at most bits of the sky. So there are post asking what is that other moon I can see?

  15. Is that Aldebaran really close to the Moon? Must be very close to being occulted

Yes it was. Just wound the clock back on sky safari, at 12.30am it was very close but didn't quite cover it. Good spot!

  16. Finally a nice clear, transparent night, forgotten what they look like!

  17. Now I see where Mr Messier was coming from. Just sweeping with the bins and wondered what a globular cluster was doing near Almach. Then realised it was Lovejoy...

  18. Hello Antares, never seen you in January before....

  19. Lovejoy a definite naked eye object here. Easy to find tonight due south of the Pleiades

  20. Wow can see Neptune in binoculars- very surprised how easily visible it is once I found a decent finder chart!

  21. Hello Sirius......

  22. Just gone to let the cat out and there's Orion! Welcome back :-)

  23. M54- My bins have GOTCHA!
