  1. About 100 mins of subs with a tilted camera...ASI2600MC Pro on RASA 8 on Jan 9th.

Big crop to remove worst out of focus stars.  DSS and PS.

Looks okay from a distance (best clicked).  A bit o colour...

  2. Threw these away when I saw the out of focus stars...seems there was a bit of tilt!  Bottom of image is fine.  Cropped out the worst.  Looks okay unless you pixel peep  ;)

M45.  1 hour of 120s subs and 1 hour of 180s subs.  RASA 8, ASI2600MC Pro, CEM 40, Lacerta MGEN.  DSS and PS.  Something to do under a full moon and cloud...

looked through my images to find the one with the brightest stars,

They do show similar effects though very tolerable!  Failure to get any of the other variables correct - alignment, focus, optimal exposure, cabling, temperature, tracking and processing could all add to it.  Especially in my case!  :)

Does anyone have any idea what is causing these unusual spikes?

I have exactly the same on my RASA 8, ASI2600MC combo.  Thought they reduced when I opted for a single curved cabling approach instead of two cables in a circle.

Is bearable if no bright stars in FOV.

  5. Some early hours clear sky after moonset on morning of 22nd January up here in Swaledale (54N, SQM 21.3).

    21 x 120s and 14 x 60s.  RASA 8 and ASI2600MC Pro.  DSS and PS.

Not much colour but *all those galaxies*!!!  :)

    Cheers, Paul.

  6. My last image is already posted, this is the next to last.  M42 whilst making numerous mistakes as I get to grips with the new setup.

Ended up with only 8 x 60s plus shorter exp for the bright core..  RASA 8 and ZWO ASI2600MC.  DSS and PS.

    All the best.  Paul.

  7. ...of my journey into the madness of deep sky imaging.  The Rosette was a bit low in altitude but obviously high enough!

    An early morning session today.

    45 x 120s RASA 8 and ZWO ASI2600MC.  DSS and PS.

Some progress.  Need to add a removable windbreak to the ROR obsy.

    Cheers

    Paul

  8. I dabbled in DSO astrophotography about 15 years ago.  A 150mm, f8 refractor...soon tired of the setup and dismantling of a heavy and unwieldy solution (also, just managed carp results...).  Retreated to widefield DSLR nightscapes, timelaspes and stuff.

Now, a permantent setup in the newly minted Yorkshire Dales Dark Sky Reserve  :)  Managed a few minutes of clear on Saturday for first light.

25 x 60s RASA8 (yes, another) and ASI2600MC.  Lacerta MGEN 3 guiding.  All on iOptron CEM40.  Processing in Deep Sky Stacker and Photoshop.

Looking forward to more clear nights and improvements.

    Best wishes, Paul.

P.S.  the second run of the evening was 60 mins of an out of focus M45...

  9. ...a relic of lead mining high above Swaledale, under the Milky Way and glow of the Northern Lights.

First attempt at foreground light painting in a freezing gale last night.  I blame @davew

Canon 6D MkII and Sigma 24mm.

Sky 8 x 6s at f2 and iso3200.  Processed in LR and Sequator.

    Foreground 3 x 6s at f5 and iso800.  Blended in PS.

I guess 50mm of aperture just isn't enough

Hi.  I regularly observe the Eastern section through Canon 15x50 IS binoculars from here in the northern Yorkshire Dales.  SQM 21.2 - 21.5.  I have observed with standard 10x50s.

Seeing the Veil kicks off the astro season for me each year!!  :)

    Good luck.  Paul.
