  1. I was disappointed with previous version.  Now with a moonlit, dark blue hour foreground.  This enabled me to get much closer to the main subject and show some of the contextual landscape without the castle lights flooding everything.  Am much happier.  Cheers, Paul.  Click for sharper view.

I think you need to give the folk at Bamburgh a light painting lesson!

Definitely!  Any closer and the light just overwhelmed the image.

I did wonder whether it might be a good location for the Milky Way season.

It is a recommended dark sky location.  I couldnt see the castle lit up across the water.  It would be a tad too light during mid-summer.

  3. Early hours Sunday.

The castle has a dozen billion watt floodlights and I found it all a bit challenging at 03.00 hours.

Ended up doing untracked sky subs beyond the castle.  Then a mix of exposures for foreground, 1 castle, 1 mid and 4 near.

A bit of a disjointed result.

    Cheers, Paul.

  4. ...windy as, had me hiding on a slope sheltering from the westerly gale.  Anything for a bit of clear sky.

One of the usual.  Light painted barn on an upslope to get Leo nicely framed.  About 8 subs for sky stacked with Sequator.  Stopped down the lens and reduced iso for foreground lit images, about 4.  Processed with LR and PS.  The barn corners do have a taper in the stonework as well as converging verticals  :)

The other is ~8 x 30s, iso1600, f3.5 tracked on MSM.  Always fancied getting the 'big' asterisms of Ursa Major and Leo in a single frame.   Canon R8, Sigma 24mm.   Quite a few Messier and NGC galaxies also lurking.  Some in annotated version.  Cheers, Paul.

  5. ...first try with a dark blue hour foreground.

Somewhat compromised by 4 x gazillion Watt imtermittent floodlights in the middle of nowhere.  Sky limited to 2 x 30s before hazed over.  Canon R8, Sigma 50mm, MSM tracker, LR, Sequator and PS.

May crop at some point.   Good to be out!!

  6. So desperately sad.  I don't know what to say.

I've spent many hours under the dark skies of his favoured mid-Wales locations.  The Elan Valley provided a particular kinship, a great sense of connection.

    Unbelievable.

  7. Bit of a mixed result.   About 21.00, March 27th, last night.  No moon, tail about 2 degrees in 15 x 50s, maybe greenish coma.

    Sky 8 x 2s, f2, iso3200.  Foreground 2 x 30s, f2.5, iso3200.  Illuminated by nearby holiday let.  LRC, Sequator and PS.  Canon R8, Sigma 50mm.

Cheers Paul.  P.S. M33 quite obvious.

How have you found the Astro-mod?

Interesting...way more signal to use, though trickier to process!  Reach the light pollution 'limit' more easily.  Certainly a bit more learning to do.  A different style with this one, trying to show off the foreground without any lighting.  Think that using the same sensor for foreground and sky makes the feel more consistent.

I (we) need more opportunities!!!!  Paul  P.S. have updated the image
