  1. The skies above my home are class 4 Bortle, as is Kelling Heath I believe, and I am happy with that, so class 1 to 2 is observing heaven. It has become the second home to our Dob Mob, so enjoy those skies Bob !!
  2. What a superb set up Mike. Love the mount on the centre column.
  3. I handled one at a recent Astronomy show Paul, and it is indeed a beast. I opted for its little brother the 26mm T5.
  4. Lovely eyepiece Alan. Enjoy........when you get the chance
  5. Too much of Luddite I fear ,Stu, though I do envy the usefulness of it all !
  6. Hope you devour it ! I have volumes 1&2 and they are really quite excellent.
  7. I think I had a close encounter with one of these and a 10" Dob recently, but it was dark when my friend was demonstrating the excellence of it. I do recall the words 'superb' and 'expensive' so it has to have been Starlight Instruments. I will get another chance when he comes to check the alignment of my OOVX12. Congratulations BTW.
  8. The last incoming eyepiece for some while I think. This is my choice for deep sky observing in my OOVX12L, giving 61X mag, TFOV of 1.34 deg, and an exit pupil of 4.91mm.
  9. Exclusively for star field cruising in my 5" F15 , this beautiful Meade 'smoothie' has just arrived. It is absolutely immaculate and considering its age, I doubt that it has had much use, not even a visible speck of dust. Exit pupil 3.73mm , TFOV 1.53 deg mag. 35x The eye lens is a massive 45mm. The eye relief is also very long and may present a challenge, but I do have a black hood to blot out all extraneous light.
  10. Thanks John for the link and for the the information. I was unaware of its decommissioning, and the fact that Mauna Kea was a sacred site. Steve
  11. Many thanks John, it was enjoyable to watch. Circa 1977 Grubb Parsons made the 150" mirror for the Infra Red Flux Collecter. The company for which I worked was involved with that , and I attended a meeting at Dunford Hadfields where the telescope structure was made, before the whole was shipped to Mauna Kea in Hawaii. Several personnel from my company were involved in the commissioning process out there, but I was just 18 months out of my apprenticeship so I missed out. I had hoped to visit the Grubb Parsons factory, but that did not happen either.
  12. Very very nice Philip, an excellent eyepiece.
  13. Jules, you are forgetting that I sold the Antares 7mm to you after I purchased it from Dave. It is a superb Ortho. I now have a MRG 7mm and a University Optics 7mm, both of which I believe to be as good.
  14. In that case Paul, when you have time, see if you can find a Nagler type 1 7mm eyepiece, or a Meade UWA 6.7mm, really not that fussy.
  15. Hi John, I must have reasonable sky over my village, as I can easily pick out the double cluster on dark moonless nights, with the unaided eye. The LVW 42mm is not the best for the scope, I agree, because of the large exit pupil it yields, but it works well enough, and is the widest AFOV that I have; I bought it for use mainly in my 5" f15 refractor, in which it excels.
  16. Mine works superbly well in the OOVX12L f5.3 so it should be good.
  17. This little jewel of engineering arrived in the post and was fitted immediately. It works beautifully.
  18. Congratulations Jeremy. A keeper for sure !!
  19. A And more ! These are simply superb in each of my scopes, from f7.4 to f15
