  1. Looks great. I really need a lighter weight rig....though what to go for...? I could go back to an AVX as well, but so many more options (and prices) out there at the moment. Should be able to pick up a second hand one I guess quite reasonable now.

  2. The weather is awful...and now heading back to work from the 17th. Lets try and get out at least once a month I say. I wanted to continue on the lunar and planetary, as well as try the guiding etc. Might need a new lighter mount. What's is the playing field now in terms of small mounts with good guiding. AVX or CGX or Ioptron?

Only just seen this! I was going to go and get some for the Edge1100.....how did you get on installing them? look awesome! I have the front mounted  college...though was going to add these as well.

  4. Well I bit the bullet...sold my other mount and Edge800.....and can tell you the new one is about 5 times as heavy in all areas....its a beast.

And the 2inch EP that comes with it is more like a hand grenade....

Spent last evening configuring the mount, and updating its firmware....now its down to dragging the thing outside one evening, and checking optics and sorting out the finder scope alignment (as I don't want to drag it out during the day!) We do need to get out a bit more though...

  5. currently saving up for more gear....though looks like the ZWO ASI174 cooled will be out before xmas....and that will dent my saving hopes. I would like a bit more aperture (so was looking at an Edge 11, on a CGEM DX....though might be another year or so before I can afford it.

  6. Well I also have now spent my Xmas money. A set of Baader LRGB CCD filters arrived today, and already fitted in my ZWO filter wheel. Just got to remember the positions now! Also picked up a new 33cm dovetail bar, and fitted a set of TAL scope rings...so the TAL can now go on the AVX! might try that out one evening for a bit of fun....if we loose the clouds.

Hope the job is going well Gary!

  7. You  are such a good boy that I thought Santa would be extra good to you...

Cant wait to see how this turns out. I did consider the reducer...so will see how this goes...I love these try before you buy scheme's ;-)

Hope you had a good xmas and New year Gary.

  8. Nice job Jules. Where was it stored originally?

Both of my 100RS are outside their boxes in the garage (still connected to their wooden pallets) with all their caps on etc. The 100R is in its wooden box, with some dew prevention sachets in their as well. Have not checked them in a while (as need to be able to throw them on the AVX, and not sure which dovetail to use. Assume for me it will be a new set of rings that fit onto a new skywatcher bar.)  I must get that sorted to try them out with the ZWO at some point.

Le us know how it goes when you use the TAL again.

  9. ...I really must resist,  its the new WO Star71 (Knobby, I know I was going to have a look at your Zenithstar, but thought what the hell...why not break the bank again.).

Anyway, hopefully the clouds will stay away so I can have a go with it...
