Let me know if you want any more pictures of my 300P. I could show how it fits in my car, for example.

Yes please.

Ah, I see. Thanks!

Dumb dob question here, what's this Paracorr I keep hearing about?
-
Famous last words.
Really isn't huge, but still hesitant about the weight though..
-
I think if I'm decided on a dob I'll go for a 10", i don't think 12" will show dramatic change in views. Let alone the weight...
-
Mmm...I see.
-
I'm actually confused here, isn't the flexitube supposed to be lighter??
-
Here's a thread with some images from when I unpacked assembled my 12" Fkextube. Might give you an idea of it's size.

Thanks, but where's the link?

Bruce looking through his "Fire Scope."
He had bought a 16-inch dobsonian telescope, and the thing was a monster; heavy to lug around. So Bruce decided to rebuild it.
Since he didn't need the tube and mount, he brought it out to the club's annual December bonfire and threw it in. We joked "how's the seeing?" and he walked up to it and looked through the focuser.
Bruce posted something about it on an online newsgroup, complaining about "tube currents" and how the manufacturer never contacted him.
Perhaps a cooling fan would've helped?

Again..hats off for German engineering. Explore Scientific not included...well, they're American anyway with Chinese products...

Looks like a giant dinosaur's poop to me...

While I'm at it - I'm still concerned about how comfortable you're with a big 12" dob...granted I don't observe anything below 40-degree anyway....but when the eyepiece is high...can you reach comfortably while sitting on a adjustable stool - say - same size of an office chair?
-
faint objects are my main concern...
-
LOL -
in terms of optical ability (or whatever it is - as John knows my terminology sucks big time) - will you noticeably ''notice'' a difference between the 10" and the 12" dobs?
-
Guys, somebody has to lend me his dob to see if I could sneak it past the wife
-
Oooh...I see.
For a moment I thought John's dob was smaller than Moonshane's - then I realized Moonshane's is a 16"....phew!!! That's a relief
So the bottom line a 12" is not that big really.
How about carrying and moving it around? In my case from the front room, into the kitchen then the garden.
-
Mmm...as tempting as it seems, I think it's too big for a small house.
I could imagine me bringing it into the house and the wife will do this to it
-
Aha, that doesn't look that big.
-
I know it's about 1.5 meters long...but I just want a visual sense of the size. Can't find proper photos around.
-
For an average adult male...what's the size of a 12" dob?
Can somebody help me with a picture to visualize the scale of this thing sitting in the lounge?

I happened to buy 3 mounts from Optic Star. My last purchase was a portable EQ3-2 Pro Synscan Goto. As usual, the service was great and the mount was delivered literally in less than 24 hours - I ordered at 2pm Wednesday and it arrived at 11am Thursday. Couldn't be happier.

PS don't forget to change the latitude bolts on the eq6.
Lol, everybody seems to recommend that. I honestly never had a problem with them for months. But it's something I might consider in the near future...
Scale of 12" dob...

Thanks Alex. This seems doable actually. Having looked around though the only 12" dobs I could find were flexitube and I am actually after a solid tube. Any idea where to get the 12" Skyliner from?
