I am sure there will be better conditions to come Neil,  maybe some decent high pressure will help make things a little bit more stable.

    Cheers

    Hi Neil

That's a stunning image. Congratulations on getting in bang on (to my untrained eye anyway 🙂)

What camera did you use for it please...and, probably a daft question, but when you use your Stella Lyra 12" Dob - how easy do you find it in terms to the fine positioning for lunar imaging?

    Cheers

    Steve

Cheers Steve it was the 178mm. which isn't particularly sensitive. But slightly larger chip. If you mean how easy it is to get on a particulate area ? its the same really as any scope. yes it weighs a ton. But i am using the EQ6R. If you mean how well does it track. that's mostly polar alignment. And balancing. The better both are, the better the tracking will be

Hi Neil very respectable images this early on considering less than ideal conditions too, see your using a new camera will be intresting to see how it performs!

Hi Simon. Thanks. Good to see you. Yes the mono version of the 462c A great all round camera both in the UV and especially IR. its another one of those tools that can enhance what we are trying to do.

  6. I had the 8.3/4 Darkstar many years ago great scopes. Can you see any initials on the primary anywhere ? David Hinds made the mirrors for some of them. A very respected mirror maker. I met the guy who made them when i was down in wales many moons ago. A nice bloke loved hes astronomy. I second the flocking advice. When you finally test the scope let it cool outside for a hour or longer to give its best. Some of us have fans on the bottom to speed up the cooling process.

Will watch this thread, nice find

That little scope is doing really well Neil. Nice captures. Just shows that in the right hands even a small scope can perform well.

Appreciated Roy. Compared to the 12" My old back prefers it that's for sure

You kids are getting too spoiled!

I would be walking around going "yep, I took that" with either of those images!

Part of the thrill is pushing what limits we set ourselves can achieve. Not in a arrogant way. But in a hopeful way. The cameras now do spoil us though agreed

    Cheers

Excellent image and as always noise free.

Cheers. Its a first for me being over mounted. Even then when focusing there's very slight wiggle. Easiest focusing I've tried though. Can almost run through with no movement. Not quite, but nearly. Never got on with a motorized focuser

Nicely done. Libration doesn't look too favourable though.

Cheers Michael resolution is always going to be limited at 90mm. But still enjoyable none the less. Will have to make a solar filter soon. As for liberation. We take what we can get.

Those look very good considering the conditions you describe Neil. Lots of detail on Jupiter already.

Cheers Stuart hoping i can get one with the Cassini all the way around. Not sure if 245mm is big enough. Wont be easy with Stella. But worth trying.

  12. Conditions didn't look great some cloud around. But since getting the little 90 mm achro. Its quite easy to get going. I am not going to setup the big scopes under such circumstances. Its here the little scope is a lot of fun. Its never going to compete in quality to the big scopes. But for its size i think the images look rather nice, and i enjoy it.
