  1. I want to do a GIF movie of a succession of solar prominences captures. I've done this before but it's extremely arduous lining up all the stills to get as seamless a movie as possible, but there's always flicker etc. I process the images beforehand. Is there a GIF movie maker that lines up the images and creates a seamless movie? Alexxx
  2. What about the Heart or Pacman nebulae?
  3. Please can you recommend good OIII targets? Alexxx
  4. Thank you! I have an OIII filter but have not yet used it.🙂
  5. Sounds great. This? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simeis_147 EDIT: hmmm, too low on the horizon at the mo.
  6. I've imaged quite a number of Ha nebulae and am running out of choices! Can anyone suggest something a bit odd? Alexxx
  7. As has been said here, I started with a modded DSLR and then moved to my Atik mono. I don't have much staying power so don't have much time to gather enough colour in one night, so tend to have stuck with nebulae in Ha with the Atik. I'm impatient to get objects so haven't yet done separate nights for colour! That'll come next. I'm beginning to want to go back to my DSLR for colour as I get so much more time. Maybe not the clarity of detail but still quite a lot of data over at least two hours. I also find the processing with DSLR colour images much easier than the Ha/LRGB processing. I can't get rid of the turquoise colour in the latter! So of course it's up to you. Go straight in to the mono, filter wheel etc if you feel confident, or go to the modded DSLR route (or equivalent) to get your hand in. Good luck! Alexxx
  8. Thanks Olly! Can you tell me which setting I go into in PHD1?
  9. Hi Olly, sorry to butt in. How do you do this? If my guiding goes wrong, it's nearly always the Dec! Alexxx
  10. This is a great thread as I'm looking for a wide-angle lens. As for the tracking, have you looked into a barn door set-up? http://education.jlab.org/tracker/ Alexxx
  11. You can take images of the brighter DSOs without having to autoguide as you can take shorter exposures, but as long as your polar alignment is good! Globular clusters are good, but I've never tried with that cam. I've only ever used DSLRs and now my CCD. I use my ZWO for planetary. Good luck! Alexxx
  12. Just a warning - I've had to load VirtualDub a couple of times from SourceForge and got malware each time, even with up-to-date malware protection. I don't like the site! But the sw is great and I just do scans and uninstall unwanted downloads. Alexxx
