The two above would have been the scopes I recommended as well. If you move into triplet land, they get much heavier so a far more robust tripod and mount solution is required. My APM TMB LZOS 105mm is airline portable but it is over 6kg so a very different beast to the above. Here it is in a Pelican 1510 plus the other stuff I have taken abroad.
Which tripod you use?

That is a great way of doing it. thanks

Just gathering your thoughts.
With carrying luggage limited at 56cm (length), is there any good 4 inch Refractor that can be categorised as travel scope?
I was thinking about the FC100DC, But not sure if you can make it fit inside the 56cm limit.

Good news! the telescope survived the journey. Very happy that I did it. 12" under dark skies is priceless.
I think the biggest problem was the logistics at the destination, as not all airbnb pictures show to long and irregular steps to the houses or how far you have to carry 30kg equipment in the middle of the night because there is no parking spaces near by.

A rich field is very rewarding. My approach has been slightly different. I normally choose a constellation in the sky and scan it, starting with my biggest field of view. If something catches my attention I change eyepiece and/or filters. Afterwards, I check on my app what object that was and if I missed obvious objects or should revisit the area.

Alternatively, you could just package it up as if you are shipping it to someone and pack extra tape to seal it again for the return trip.
Did that myself when getting a large, relatively expensive scope to a star party in Canada.
I am going with that option.

I looked at that and for the whole period I could by another telescope. So it is not the best option..

I hear what you are all saying, and thank you for that. But I am desperate to use a big telescope under dark skies. It is a though call. However, I am tired of being tired to take the dob out, or rain, or clouds or short gap that does not allow the telescope to cool etc. A big telescope that does not see the stars is sad.

Unfortunately the trip is by plane.

Hi All,
Does anyone know where in the UK I can find a padded bag for my 12" ES dob?
I am planning to take it to a trip later this month. The most appropriate one I found is from Geoptik 12". it fits the dimensions 90x45x45cm.
But I have not found in stock yet in the UK.
Cheers

If you have a dark sky, between 3rd to 7th of August it is realistic to expect 3 to 5 bright ones per hour and other smaller ones, but not all related to the Perseids. There are some smaller (around 5) active showers such as delta Aquarieds and alpha Capricorniads for example, all peaking at end of July that can be added to the increasing activity of perseids.

I hope you all get good weather!

Great set! I hope you can find the missing ones soon.
Do you use it quite often?
I do have a complete BGO set that is used together with my 12" Dob. I find it the perfect match in terms of visual and physical balance of the Dob. I don't remember seeing darker backgrounds than I see with my orthos.

I know exactly what you mean and I hate it when programmes do that. I guess the accountants have been at work figuring out the optimum relationship between production costs and revenue from broadcasting.
...but I'm still going to watch it.
Don't blame the accountants

Quick crop of DSLR shot at 300mm F/11, 1.6 sec ISO 1600:
Your picture reproduces what I was looking at few minutes ago. Well done. I took my daughter 14y to see her first comet naked eye with tail. Not every day you put together the words comet, Naked eye and tail in the same sentence.
