  1. Ty but no chance of a clear night. 90 minutes at most but that will do. I'll test focus again, but I doubt it will be worse than redoing via live view and Nina's display if it looks ok I'll try and get an hour on hh nebula. If it's too patchy cloudy I'll test my 500mm SCT lol
  2. As an eternal optimist and total noob I think there will be an hour or so this evening with some stars. Having very expertly and sensibly focused all my telescopes ( ) on the moon last week and then electrician taped them down, my plan is to try them out, at various f stops and sub lengths on m51 (cos it's always visible) then post examples to see any problems. Is there anything else I could do in between rain frying my camera and laptop?
  3. im in same boat as you then i took some shots of orion with a dslr and old lens and liked it so i bought a the gti. i've spent maybe a total of 12 hours under the stars with it so far and am so recent to nina i've not had clear enough skies to do more than 3ppa. at least it should all be ready to go if i ever see stars again.
  4. no probs, all i did was say give nina a go its pretty easy
  5. i think this should work: connect usb from pc to mount run synscan app on pc and use it to connect to mount. you might have to change the setting in the synscan app on your pc to use usb/serial connection. check its connected by seeing if it slews via the the direction controls in the app on your pc. run nina and tell nina to connect to the correct mount (telescope) in the drop down box that should be it. this video was pretty helpful: sadly you'll need to watch it upside down as he sounds Australian
  6. Ask if any problems I might be able to help with the basics.
  7. Don't even know how I would star align in Nina. I just use the atlas to find my target and press slew. The I just add that target as a legacy sequence, change iso and exposure time to my liking and hit play. I would advise connecting everything up in daylight as there will be some niggles with drivers and setting up plate solving, but lots of YouTube's on that. It's really pretty simple with help from here and YouTube
  8. It's a free easy way to dip your toe. I'm no expert by any means but even i could set up 3ppa and plate solving very easily
  9. Yeah lol I also got the snap cable and camera control was clunky. I installed synscan on windows and run it to connect to my GTi via usb cable, the run Nina. With plate solving working reliably, it's ace. Now I just need clear skies to actually do stuff Id say asiair is better for cable management though a mini pc running Nina would also help compared to the rat's nest I have, using a laptop
  10. possibly me too, so ill probably get zwo main and guide camera just in case. nina seems pretty good for me so far though. just noticed you have a swsa gti on your list of stuff. have you used it much and what do you think? is your alt bolt like mine with a sort of dead spot? if you move it up or down too far then go other direction, there is some slack?
  11. Apologies cheese plate looks a good choice for me I think.
  12. Ignore this sorry Another option is an l bracket. Seems fiddly but maybe bit more accurate. Maybe Something called a cheese plate too looks grate Delta astro showed a us made hotshoe clamp and a matchstick looks like https://uk.neewer.com/products/neewer-ls-t16-metal-finderscope-mount-adapter-66602872?_pos=6&_sid=b55c8a422&_ss=r Which I think would do me nicely
  13. Pretty much of only way seems to attach the guidesscope to the underneath of my vixen dovetail on the front/lens end? With only one screw attaching my dslr and I guess one on the guide scope I'd be worried about lining them up and diverging. Any got a link to a discussion of other options ? Had a quick search on these forums without any luck which makes me think no one does it for good obvious reasons
  14. It's more than possible I'm looking at wrong thing on flo website I'm sort of planning ahead
  15. It's not something daft like the telescope focal length option has say 2000mm instead of 200mm is it?
  16. Yeah the area is much larger, so even bigger impact. Just thinking for future
  17. So if I expose for 3 times longer or at three stops lower that will compensate? I'm noob but genuine question. Zwo do a osc camera for under £400 and getting a random to mod my 600d will cost £200 minimum. So I'm torn. I only use my 600d for astro. ****** By Random I mean via eBay etc, not anyone trusted on these forums btw
  18. This is fabulous. More info on your gear please, for context.
  19. I've found my intervalometer with 600d and two second lock up a tad variable. 3 minute subs come out at mostly 180sec but some are 182 or 183. Since using legacy sequencer in nina (not advanced, I'm a lazy coward) they are always 180sec. And as we all know everything is better done on a computer
  20. Lovely image btw. Flats and/or a clean should do.
  21. Give Nina a ago If I can do 3ppa and plate solving after 30 minutes of first using Nina anyone can
  22. Lol of course you are. Just me replying to your post will jinx my clouds for me
  23. I would if I wanted a pano of the neighbours houses. It was just an Idea I had trouble googling as I'm still not sure what the exact terms might be. I'm sure others must have considered doing similar. Now I'm thinking people have thought about it but not done it probably for very sensible reasons. A vertical ish slice of sky survey, maybe?
