  1. I'm a noob so bare that in mind. I'm ok at focusing but hfr in Nina seems higher during bad seeing. I realise that's nebulous and not much help, but I'm also interested in the answers to this There is a column on meteoblu website lists your seeing by the hour in arc seconds. However, while I'm noob I'm in the UK so that prediction might be as accurate as weather forecast are here ;( Mine will be just 1.6" at midnight tonight. Apparently. Can't wait
  2. One step at a time. We can wait until we have ftl and other magic, but that just leaves us exposed to multiple low to high risk events occuring in the meantime. Maybe I'm just too risk averse when the potential stake is so high. Also I'm far from convinced that a lack of the very basics such as clean water, food and education is due to spending too many of our resources on technology. Certainly from a historical perspective, that seems to be more due to our/the west simply not giving a s*&t about it. Oh and of course capitalism, I'm alright Joe etc. remember it wasn't that long ago the UK was forcing heroin on china down the barrel of a gun. This lack of interest in other nations seems to be mellowing a little over time, maybe as comntech has improved. Which at least is one positive trend.
  3. Looks fantastic and under 3 hours too. I actually like what I achieved in two hours with a dslr, but it's maybe 1% the quality of your result
  4. Earth is incredibly fragile. As far as we can tell, the only place in the entire universe where life exists. Asteroid impacts, nearby supernovas, jellystone exploding, nuclear wars and I'm sure there's more.
  5. I don't have a high opinion of musk for many reasons, I think he's a clown. The moon is just a stepping stone along the way. A potential source of fusion fuel, rocket fuel, cheap solar energy, that kind of thing
  6. I'm not convinced the two are mutually exclusive.
  7. Getting all our eggs out of our single very very fragile basket is surely the highest priority there could ever be though? Moonbase etc would be a start on that.
  8. obviously, im not desperate to image m31 as it should fill my fov, but looking on telescopius (which is a fantastic website) i noticed this weird blip/drop in its altitude plot over 12 months. is this a bst thing or will the earth suddently spin on its axis fast enough to throw us all into space? im pretty sure its the latter, but not 100% certain see yellow arrow
  9. Still far nicer than my over stretched attempt
  10. This doesn't sound fit for purpose or of merchantable quality from here. At some point I'd like a imx585 based camera and I'll be avoiding zwo I think.
  11. Wow. I loved the earlier versions, but this is better again.
  12. This looks great. A minor, minor criticism is that in my mind, it should be red in colour but that's probably convention rather than anything else. Some amazing detail here, I can't wait for it to be visible for me and my improved gear
  13. Really nice detail. Maybe a bit green noise though? My 2 hours of data are on my list to reprocess as I did it badly above
  14. Very helpful Ty. Seen a clamp for £30 ish on fleabay so could be worse. Of course, with hindsight I've realised I've rotated my scope in it's rings because i don't have a rotator. Which means attaching a dovetail on top of the OTA rings is pretty much my only option I think. I have a spare dovetail so I should just need a second screw for it and a clamp and screws for it, then plonk my guidescope on the new dovetail and space velcro on my usb hub to it, too. What fun ill have.
  15. Looking on fleabay now I like Nina too much to go asiair now. Can maybe get a mele quieter for just over £100 at some point nearer the heat death of the universe.
  16. Yeah that's my understanding too, but (I probably wrong) if your mounting point isn't top center of your OTA, some rotation left or right would actually be across both Ra and Dec? Which might be bad? Not sure I'm explaining that too well. Also my fl is like 420mm so probably wouldn't matter to my set up too much.
  17. I don't like the idea of trying to line this up with my main scope at least using my finder clamp thing it seems close enough. Going to look at top mounting a spare vixen dovetail on top, and then something with two screws to attach my guidescope and cam I think, but I'll probably give your solution a try first and it's cheaper Ty for the suggestion and pic
  18. I don't think so but will check. Not keen on this though because your setup looks prone to rotation around the single screw ? I should be well under payload capacity so will try some counter weight and velcro
  19. Not keen on buying any filters before I can get a proper camera also I think my flatteners filter hold is inside nose piece which I don't use, so I'd need a clip in or a filter drawer. I'd rather put that cash towards a camera. even so I quite like my result from 2 hours and will try and add more time if I ever see a star ever again.
  20. I did the veil nebula only 2 hours but I was really impressed. I have three post processed versions This is the least over processed
