Today the postie delivered my new to me Celestron Axiom LX 23mm eyepiece. Having just bought the 31mm recently and being delighted with it, I also decided to go for the 23mm from the same seller..I've wanted another Vixen LVW22mm for a while, but they've become as rare as hen's teeth..if the Axiom 23mm is as good as the 31mm (and reviews suggest they are), I should have similar LVW22mm performance, but with an 82 degree fov.

These Axiom LX's are BIG, heavy 2" eyepieces: but they are very well made, with machine engraved script into the aluminium cases, and a wonderfully smooth helical eyecup adjustment so you can get very comfortable.. the photo of the pair of Axioms show the 23mm on the left with eyecup extended upwards, and the right shows the 31mm with the eyecup only slightly upwards.

These two join my 2 Morpheus' 9 and 17.5mm, and a lovely Nagler 12mm to complete my main ep set - all with 2" capability and UWA fov between 76 degrees and 82degrees🙂.

Could this be my permanent, keeper set?😱😂 (Where have I heard that before??!)..

Nice!. I bought the 10mm Celestron Luminos a few weeks back... really like it. Now thinking about the 31mm to join my SWA/UWA group

  2. Sure hope this thread helps others also. Its also interesting the backlash may not be apparent until a long tube or heavy scope is mounted like I have here. This will help tremendously with stability (as I'm a non/light imager).

  3. All, looking for some help/guidance with regards to some play I have in my old HEQ5  Dec axis. Basically I’ve found that while the tube is mounted and locked you can rock it back and forth.. only a small amount, but it’s enough to annoy as I’m sure this is not helping with stability as my tube is 1.2m long!. I’m thinking maybe strip it down?. Or is something required to just be tightened up?.

  4. I've had the 150P and really enjoyed it. You need to look at budget & exceptions here. I would suggest replacing the stock EP's along with a nice Barlow to double them up!. As a jump you cant go wrong with BST explorers from First Light Optics. Good on the pocket, and a really nice step up!. Use them for a while, learn the sky and enjoy multiple objects... just have fun

  5. Excellent post @John its a real interesting one. I've also been a visual observer since 1985!.. I started out with a Patrick Moore book from the Science Museum.. years ago friends from over the pond suggested "Nightwatch' by Terence Dickenson. That opened my world!. I find in the last 10 years with the improvement of optics and telescope builds, all apertures have there place, and can certainly offer massive enjoyment in observing. All my scopes get frequent use on many targets.

  6. All,

I have a 2" dielectric diagonal generic svbony 99%, not entirely sure 99%, but good quality all the same in fairness!. I want a 1.25" Diagonal of quality to sit in the grab n go setup for the ed80, but to also use with the Bresser 127L tbh. I have my eye on the Tak prism 1.25". Now I hope this would sit well in the ED80 at F6.8?.. no question I'm sure with the 127L at F9.5.

Any opinions or comments from those that have one or similar would be good, or even opinions on another considerations.

    Thanks in advanced

    Stay Safe.... Rob
