Hi there all, sorry if i appear a bit thick on this question? But why is there no colour when viewing objects e.g Orions sword, pleidies, only see black and white, i have a heritage 130p reflector 25MM and 10mm ep only, do i need filters? or is it a case of bad light pollution? or other e.p sets? thanks yours paul.

no in a word unless you have tracking on your scope and a dslr camera and adapters and long exsposures, color filters will bring dif things out lets say jupiter red green yellow filters for me brought dif belts and the red dpot out but other wise on orions great neb and most others will be black and white

You will see little colour. This is why many people are disappointed the first time they look through a telescope since they simply assume that what they will see looks like what they have observed in books.

The fact of the matter is that the human eye can't decipher the colour that can be seen through long exposures. Some colour can be seen in the bands of Jupiter, blueish tinges in stars, and you will definitely see the reddish hue of Mars but anything else? No.

Todd is right though, there is plenty to see. in the end, it's not what you see that counts right but what you know about it right?

I wish you clear skies!

Hi isabelle, yeah thanks for that, i have some celetron sky master bins 17x70 and the pull in a bit of colour on pliedies, stars are blue, mind you they have bak 4 prisem lens in, i will invest in some more ep`s probabley the revalation kit, my 10mm ep is good but could do with more mag or is it resolution? I was told at local astro club magnification is a dirty word and its all about resolution?. yours paul.

There is one rule of thumb when it comes to magnification,.. the more you magnify, the less light you capture in your scope.

Yes, it ALL has to do with resolution which pretty much captures the light needed and inky black skies. Light pollution will ruin any romp in the stars. When it comes to glares of street lights and such, I've bee told that filters can help.

I wish you clear skies!
