Lots to see this month for planet observers especially in the morning sky.

Mercury reaches greatest eastern elongation on Dec 29th. Not a good one but can be seen low down after sunset in the west towards end of month.

Venus, Jupiter remain brilliant morning objects.

Mars also visible in the morning between Venus and Jupiter but much fainter.

Saturn passed through solar conjunction last month and re-appears low down in the southeastern sky before sunrise during the second half of December.

Uranus evening object, Neptune visible for a few hours after sunset.

Sky was clearing around 7:00 this morning.

A beautiful chain of Venus, Mars, Jupiter and the Moon. Nice to see Mars as an obvious naked eye object when the sky has colour in it - it's getting closer :-)

Arcturus was very obvious as well - it seems only weeks ago it was over the other side of the sky!

  • 3 weeks later...

Lookin good this morning about 6:30, Jupiter, Mars and Venus all really bright - and some actual clear skies.

This is the dream though(next month): Need to get further south though. Couldn't get mercury above the horizon in the north of England
