New Binoculars On Their Way

Got a pair of  10 x 50   Opticron Imagic TGA WP Porro Prism being delivered. They are in my local depot but did not go for Sat delivery so they will be delivered Monday    .I also ordered a tripod adapter and a sheet of Baader AstroSolar Safety Film. I have a Slik 88 tripod and a sturdy monopod . Also ordered from fleebay some black neoprene sponge foam to make a pair of light shields ,only cost a couple of £`s so if they do not work no big lose.

I was all pumped up to order them so phoned FLO to order and also ask some advice about different types of mounts for telescopes. basically had a message that meant I could not order them via the phone and send an email. I was deflated and almost ordered the binos from another supplier. In the end I ordered them online from FLO and sent them an email about advice on the mounts, not so good tying to explain in an email exactly what I was after.

I was expecting an answer "within minutes" or at least the same day as I sent email around 11:30 am on the Friday but still no reply. I expect they are either busy replying to all the emails,as they must get a lot no doubt, or not really bothered.

Must admit I am in no hurry to buy a mount but if they do not get back to me at all then I will perhaps try somewhere else.

No doubt as per normal in UK when I go to try binos on the stars it will be cloudy!!!!

I ordered the same opticron imagic 10x50s on Thursday and also hoping for a Monday delivery! I was going to order from FLO but the postage to Northern Ireland was £24, which I thought was very steep. In the end I searched around and got them from Grovers Optical for only £7 carriage.

Really looking forward to trying out a quality set of bins (compared to my old cheap ones).

Well I got my new 10 x 50   Opticron Imagic TGA WP from FLO delivered on Monday 30th and was well pleased with service, thank you. I got them out of the box and had a quick peep at the W.H Smith building and was amazed how much sharper and brighter they were than my 10 year old Nikon 9 x 21. I was expecting them to be brighter but not so much sharper than my Nikon. They were pinpoint sharp which could be due to how quality in manufacture has improved over 10 years. What I was not expecting was the difference in magnification from 9x to 10 x, not much but enough to make a difference.

Due to the clouds in UK as usual, not had much chance to try them out except for quick view for a few minutes. I have spent the time making a pair of light shields for the street lamp, not sure if I even needed them but made them anyway. Also have made a pair of solar filters. I finally got a chance to try them on my tripod rather than just holding them and boy what a difference that makes.

I set them up to view the moon and was well pleased with the views. Not had a chance to scan the sky to see if there are stars I cannot see with naked eye but will be visible with binos.

This morning is a clear sunny day so set tripod, chair & solar filters up to view the sun. Wow, the view is impressive. I could easily see sunspot 2320 & 2318.

Am I pleased with these Opticron you bet, it was Astro-Baby review which finally clinched it. I have hummed & hawed what pair of 10 x 50 to buy reviewing the cheapest but not to the most expensive. I am glad I just waited  a bit longer rather than jumping in feet first at the 1st review and decided on buy once not twice strategy .If anyone is in a similar boat take it from me these binos are perfect in the price bracket.
