Suitable webcams for polarscope adaption?

I have recently been directed to this thread: http://stargazerslou...lar scope mod which gives instructions for modifying an SPC900 for polar scope use and looks really great [Thanks, Alan]. The only fly in the ointment is the virtual impossibility of sourcing an SPC900NC nowadays.

But it got me wondering:

• Has anyone had any success in doing something similar with a currently available webcam?
  
• Do people think that one of the very-available-for-under-a-tenner CMOS webcams would be capable of picking up Polaris (which is all it would need to do)?
  

I did find the £2 Tesco webcam thread and went looking for one of those, but they seem to be no longer available either.

At the end of the day, I would probably get one of these cheapies to try it - after all it's not going to break the bank - but I thought it worth asking for opinions first, in case anyone can provide any definitive advice.

I used an Xbox webcam for the polar scope and it worked.

The best way is to use a blanking cap for plumbing pipe they fit perfectly over eq6 polar scope

I got one of those. But how do you attach it to the xbox webcam?

I just drilled and used glue from what I remember was a while ago now. Have u blacked out the little green light on the xbox camera if not I found nail varnish worked a treat:)
