Some S Hemisphere Doubles

Recommended Posts

SPX350 F34.2-36.2, PGRFlea3, Astrodon filters.

Seeing for Saturn was not the best so thought I would scout around for double stars with the long fl. Alpha Centauri is the best known binary but also has Proxima which is also connected gravitationally and 2.2 degrees away from the bright pair at 11th mag - must be the widest double around between Proxima and Alpha owing to its closeness to the Sun.

Imaging in the South above our roof so seeing was not wonderful. Antares was close split, others say it has a green companion but I did not think stars could be green, B component too faint to show any colour though. Tried Hadar (Beta Cent) but could not split.

Did not try these doubles visually in the eyepiece just did it the quick and lazy way in camera.

Thanks, John.
