how many amps do i need?

i have just bought a 12v mains adapter for my new heq 5 but it only has 4 amps is this not enough?

The EQ6 only takes about 2 amps max when slewing both axes IIRC.

Should do. I've run mine off less than 4A before with no problems.

ok i have just haulled the mount out to my van and pluged it in using the cigarette lighter and hey presto it works so do i need a booster pack?

You could run it off the car battery, I've done that for several short (2 hr) observing sessions and the motorway run the next morning left it fully charged.

I've seen others use normal booster packs - they work, although I'd make sure you have at least 20Ah (ie total of your kits in amps * number of hours you normally observe). I got a 100Ah battery so I could run the mount, the anti-dew heaters, the camera(s) and even the laptop via an inverter if needed for 10+ hours. A bit over kill but it worked well at SGL6. 100Ah would probably run my setup for an entire two night session without needing a charge!
