Splitting Regulus

Hi,

It may sound naive but I've tried a few times and never really managed to get a clear split on Regulus. Algieba for instance splits no problem, but Regulus at best gives me a weird image of a star in the center and a few ones around it, which is definitely down to overfocusing...

My scope (f5) is collimated, and fair enough I tried x130 (nasty eyepiece + TeleVue Barlow) in a pretty light polluted area.

It annoys me, this one

Any thoughts?

Hi Tom

The Regulus pair are seperated by 175 arc seconds so it will be split at any useable magnification.

The companion is 8th Magniude so should be the brightest star nearby.
