An Old Transit of Venus

Just found an old Transit of Venus photo that a snapped through the clouds, and thought Id postit. It was taken at about 7:30am about 20 minutes into the transit

Please forgive my ignorance but what am I looking at? Surely not Venus passing in front of the moon?

Venus Transiting the sun from June 8th 2004. its a very rare sight the last time was in 1882 and won't be seen here for 120 years or so I'm sure someone will know exactly when. There will be another transit in 2012 but it won't be visible from the UK then thats it for anothe r100 years or so.

Very nice picture, the clouds make it look kinda spooky
