RA drive speed.

Hi All,

What speed does a ra motor drive run at? I have access to several motor companies and know a few people that can get stuff and it wouldnt be hard to make a DC voltage set up.

Depends on the final gear ratio between the motor and the RA shaft.

Some mounts have a 96:1 worm wheel drive, some 100:1 and others a 144:1 ratio.

DC motors? How are you going to stabilise the speed? Shouldn't you be thinking of stepper motors?

You'd need to count the number of teeth on the worm shaft....

They usually run at "sidereal" speed plus a mixture of speeds for eyepiece/finder centering, solar, lunar, and slewing rates
