Daylight Setup???

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

Is there anyway to ensure acurate polar alignment during the day?, i setup yesterday to do some solar observing, using the solar align was fine but then had to re-setup once the sun set.

any ideas?

Best to set it up at night, mark the position of the tripod legs on the ground and don't retract the tripod legs. However, I found using a compass is accurate enough for the sun. The sun is a very large and very bright object even after filtering, so accurate alignment is not as important as night.

I am sure there are ways to use the sun's drift for polar alignment, but since the angle of the sun changes with season, the procedure will be much more complicated than night time.
