Piggyback Question

Recommended Posts

Hey ive been trying to take some piggy back pictures with my canon 1000d with a 50mm f1.4 lens.

ISO 400 + 800 i can only manage about 2 seconds expossure before the pictures start turning REALLY red.

Is this light pollution or are my settings a little out?

thanks for your advice :)

Sounds like light pollution!

The std 50mm f1.4 will obviously pick it up pretty quickly!!

while your there and being helpfull merlin mind if i ask another question?

:(

i have a couple on lens 18-55 and a 80-200

they arent as good quality as th 50mm

which would you recommend i use and what sort of apature?

im still veery very new to the camera so forgive me if i sound thick :)

thanks

A fixed lens usually performs (optically) better than the zooms.

You could try a lower ISO say 200 - 400 and f2.8 - all this will do is limit the light and appear to give darker images.

The processing in your imaging software (what do you have at the moment??) and re-balancing the red/ blue / green will give some improvement...

The other option is to get a 2" (48mm filter thread) astronomical light pollution filter and some stepping rings to fit it to the front of your lens - this may help depending on the type of background lights (yellow sodium -yes; white mercury -some; white LED- no)
