Is there a correct way.

When you bring a refractor back into the house I read some where that you should let it dry out at room temprature before packing it away should this be done with the lens cap on or off as when you take the lens cap off the lens mists over striaght away so I was just wondering if you leave the lens cap on does the lens warm up slower avoiding the mist issue.

Yes, I think Andy is right, replace all the caps before bringing it into the house.

You could also put the capped scope in a case, the cold air will be trapped inside,

and the outside of the case is likely to become damp when you bring it in, better

than getting the scope itself damp. The whole case and contents will gradually

aclimatise to the indoor temp.

In the morning you could check the scope and its optics for any dampness, and

let it dry out naturally if there is. You could wipe down the scope if there is any

damp, but allow the optics to dry naturally. I do the same with my eyepieces.
