how to move your scope

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was out the other night under a brightly light night sky thanks to the moon looking at the lovely clouds passing by. I managed to get a few quick looks at Jupiter. Thanks to the new motor it makes it easier to keep object in view now.

However something did occur to me, am I moving my scope in the correct way once polar aligned? I am leaving the azimuth locked and just using the RA and Dec to move the scope, but is there a right and wrong way to do this?

This might be a stupid question but something that has been bugging me for a while now.

Polar alignment is for the mount only. Once this is set you do not need to move your mount.

The only thing you need to move after polar alignment is the telescope and as you said this is done by using the RA and DEC so you are doing it correctly.
