  1. I like the idea of controlling a telescope with just a Raspberry Pi and Stellarium.
  2. Looks like someone has been having reasonable results using the RasPi camera to get Solar System stills and video. Take a look here. It seems you can now also run Stellarium on the RasPi. I'm not sure if this camera module would be any good for DSO's though.
  3. Just read on the Raspberry Pi web site that the camera boards, they have been promising for months, will finally be available in April. There is no mention of the specs of the cameras, so no idea if they are any use in astrophotography, but they are giving a few away to anyone who comes up with interesting ways to use one.   4. I live about 30 mins away from Widerrnere and there are lots of dark site not too far away. Thinking of going up there in early Feb myself.

  6. I hope they do, I really like the look of this. I've pledged £50 which gets me the developer board and solderbridge if they reach their target.
  7. Yesterday, I was looking to see what new and interesting projects there were on the Kickstarter web site and found a new development board that could have a few uses in astronomy. The board is called the SplashBase Development Board which lets you control things through your network or android phones. If the project gets off the ground there will be many add on boards, the first of which is a board containing 4 relays called SplashBase. I was thinking this could be used to automate an observatory.
  8. I have a couple of these. Just drill the bar to fit your rings.
  9. I've been using a 10" LX200gps for 8 years and considered getting a wedge for it a couple of years ago. But instead I picked up a second hand HEQ5 Pro and an ED80mm APO for imaging and use the LX200 for visual use and solar system imaging.
  10. You can see Venus in the morning for the next month or so and you will be able to see Saturn in the morning around January. I don't think Venus, Saturn, or Mars will be visble in the evenings in the next 6 months.

  13. Yes it is possible to take web cam images with a C9.25 but they will still only be small disks.
  14. No Andy, nothing spring loaded. The three nylon screws hold it firmly in place. The reviewer in this review thought it might have been a problem not having it spring loaded but found he never needed to adjust the guide scope at all.
  15. I don't know anything about using a finder for guiding but the Orion kit in the image above is a small guide scope, has nothing spring loaded, and seems rock solid. I haven't had chance to try it yet but did find this review. There is also this package for longer focal length telescopes that uses a ST80.
  16. I might be wrong Andy but aren't the QHY5 and the Orion StarShoot basically the same camera. Have you ordered both?
  17. That is exactly what I got. The kit also comes with a StarShoot AutoGuider camera and a software CD. It's a complete package. I'll be using one of these as a finder.
  18. Hi Andy It's a complete package, the camera comes with a small guide scope and mounting hardware. It arrived about an hour ago and seems to be very good quality and looks simple to setup.

  20. You will probably find the eyepieces you have will be fine for viewing both Saturn and Jupiter. Venus is never much better than a bright light and Mars is not very good this year.
  21. There are no smaller mirrors or prisms behind the primary mirror. I think the poster was refering to the mirrors or prisms inside the diagonal when added to the set up.
  22. Let us know how you get on. If that doesn't work I'm sure others will have plenty of suggestions for you.
  23. If you have a diagonal or extension tube attach the camera to this and you should be able to reach focus.
