orion Telescopes

Anybody got a view on Orion telescopes. Have a friend in the USA whi is intrested, so was looking for some advice as they dont seem to be commen here in the UK

Hi Pat - I assume you mean Orion USA rather than the UK firm Orion Optics.

The Orion (US) scopes are from the same manufacturer (Synta) as the Skywatcher equivilents. I've used the Orion version of the ED80 and it was identical to the Skywatcher version apart from the colour scheme.

The Orion dobsonians can have an optional "push to" system which is rather good I believe.

I think the reason that they are not so popular over here is that their pricing tends to be noticably higher than the Skywatcher equivilent equipment.

Could get your friend to google "Cloudy Nights" which is an American forum similar to this and at the top of their home page is a section that provides for reviewing of kit. There is mention within the telescope reviews of the Orion brand and in particular the dobsonians.
