EQ6 pro - movement in dec axis

Hi,

Just done tune up of eq6 mount - sounds much better and removed loads of old gunk.

Cant remember whether this happened before but seem to have a small amount of movement in the dec axis (the one where you mount the ota onto) whether clutch is engaged or disengaged. This movement of about 0.5mm - 1mm seems to happen at both ends i.e if i move the mount plate or the counterweight bar - any ideas?

works fine apart from that.

thanks

Jamie

You will never get rid of all the backlash, 1mm is nothing to worry about. Just balance the scope slightly counter balance end heavy and you wont notice it.

No, hang on; the OP is talking about the Dec axis so loading the RA won't help. Try running the mount a tiny bit EP end heavy to avoid backlash.

Also, don't load a mount counterweight heavy, load it east heavy, so as to keep the gears 'pushing.' The east may be counterweight or maybe scope, depending on target and time. I have my weights in known positions so I can guess the weight shift when I have to do the hated meridian flip.

The imbalance should be quite small.

just found a note on tune up website mentioning the small black grub screws, looks like I didnt adjust these properly to ensure good fit - there was slight misalignment- now adjusted and have only a little movement now - will use above method to ensure tracks correctly - thanks again!

YOu should be able to tuen it tighter than that - have you had a look at my tuning guide ? There is oftean a smal lplay in the DAC axis of these mounts which is really tough to eliminate but the DEC axis is usually easy enough to tune out any play.
