Another one of my stupid questions

Ok I'm just having a look at various moon maps, and theres something called Mare Orientale which is a massive impact basin.

Anyway some maps say you can see some of it, others say you cant!

I remember when I was a kid, learning about the Mare's on the moon and remember something about Orientale like it can be seen certain times of the year or something.

Any ideas? Or am I just going mad lol.

It's right at the edge, at a tangent. With the movement/wobble of the moon, sometimes you can, sometimes you can't. I think thats how it works anyway.

I thought it was something like like that, There was an animation floating about here somehwere about the luna wobble.

There was also a site that had moon targets for to see, like the Lunar X (Which I presume is Vallis Alpes?)

The lunar x feature that appeared in CC and Phil's pics a short while back looks to be in an area between Blanchinus and Purbach - that's if I'm reading VMA correctly. I'd never heard of the x before seeing these pics.

I have tried to see the X but never got there at the right time. It appears as the sun rises over the crater rims that form the X, but only lasts a short time. It's been a while since I tried, so I can't remeber exactly where it is.
