Jupiter - 14th November 2010

My best view of Jupiter this time around.

10" F4.7 Dobsonian.

Seeing II/III, x174.

21:30UT

The bright areas by the North Equatorial belt was something I have not seen before.

Yes! I was looking between 21.00 and 21.30 and I saw similar structure in the NEB and where the SEB should be. I thought the structure in the NEB was very pronounced tonight - perhaps because of the white areas you mention (I did not see them, but perhaps they enhanced contrast on the NEB for me). It's been the first time in a weeks that the seeing has been good enough for me to attempt a sketch.

If that is the GRS off to the left, I couldn't make it out... bother!

Hello AGS, yes thats the GRS just about to disappear. You picked a good night to view Jupiter as seeing was quite good.

that's a great drawing, I was out just after you and i got the bright ovals in the EZ next to the NEB too, I have not seen them before this year either, but now I seem to see them most sessions.
